Well, a while back ,I posted to say that I was thinking of making my own landyacht and also getting our local MenzShed to do the same with a group of "challenged" pre teens we are mentoring at the local school. Last semester they just wanted to make swords and daggers
Any way the oldies thought a landyacht seemed interesting.
I scored a mast and sails but missed a second set that I was going to use for the school project so I was ready to go. Yesterday I got 3 free wheel barrow wheels but now need to sort the bearings..no worries there.
Today I went to the shed and one of the members had scored 2 free windsurfer sails from the local tip..now need to work out what they are and sort masts. The local teacher for the "challenged" class now says he thinks he can source 2 more sails and masts so what looked like to be a personal project now looks like a major project for the Shed members and the kids.
The old fellas are keen to learn welding (and teach the kids) and we have 3 MIG welders for them to use so I guess they are now all looking for unattended wheel barrows to "re-purpose" their wheels...lock up your barrows if you live near us.
We have a great beach..today me and 5 dogs were the only ones on the beach mid afternoon!!!
Current indications are there could be 5 or 6 land yachts planned. Yachts will be based on the LLFM plans. Expect lots of questions as we are all old buggas well past retirement age (I am 76yo). Fastest things we own are mobility scooters and walkers.
I did also talk about Drift Trikes but I have decided to keep my mouth closed coz someone gave me 2 Go Kart wheels and a BMX bike as a starter package and I don't want to get landed with yet another project. Of course if a decent 50cc horizontal 4 stroke motor gets dropped off by the fairies then things may change.
Oh..and Hiko..next time you have the yachts at Waihi I think there might be few old fellas keen to have a look/try
