I've noticed that you guys seem to be recommending Fallshaw wheelbarrow wheels. I dropped into Statewide Bearings and ordered 4.00x8 plastic Fallshaw wheels and tyres with precision bearings. They've supplied them but there are no markings to show a brand name.

Are Fallshaw wheels and tyres branded?

Unfortunately you are correct. That appears to be a Richmond wheel, not a Fallshaw wheel. I have attached an image of our wheel, as you can see the rim design is different and our name is on the tyre (bottom right of tyre wall in the photo).


One of our old distributors in WA who used to distribute Fallshaw wheels sold their business to Richmond. It might be that Statewide sourced the wheels from them unknowingly. Statewide are a distributor of ours and can access our products for you, I would recommend returning the wheels and requesting Fallshaw originals (feel free to send them the attached image). Alternatively you can order directly through our online store. If you let me know what size bearing you need I can give you the part code you’ll need.

I would suggest when you request the fallshaws you ask for ribbed tyres instead of the knobblies also

When I bought mine a couple of years ago the ribbed tyres were not available. These are the only tyres they would supply. If I recall rightly they were $38 each without bearings

I paid $66 each with precision bearings. The wheels came without bearings and new bearings were supplied in their separate boxes.

Sorry I hit the wrong quote button. I did ask for ribbed tyres originally but he told me that only the highway tread was available. Obviously that was for the Richmond wheel.

I strongly recommend that you exchange them, as I used the Richmond wheels (his parents had purchased in Perth) on a trolley for a lad to transport a pelican yacht to the beach from the boat shed. He bought it back so I could build a second one for another yacht a season later and the rims were cracked around the spokes at the centre hub. The trolley had always been stored under cover in the boat shed.

All the fallshaws I've bought have only ever had knobbies fitted to them when new.

I have bought mine here in NZ as a mix and match deal. Rims , tyres ,tubes ,bearing inserts and bearings
Maybe you cant do that with your supplier

I had another reply from Fallshaw regarding the tyres.


Unfortunately we only do the rib pattern in our 200x50 sized wheel. The 400x8 wheel comes in the knobbly pattern similar to the wheel you were provided (which a colleague confirmed is an EHI branded wheel, not Richmond).


The code that you will need is 400X8KNO-PWB10, this is with a 1” (25.4mm) deep groove ball bearing, which you can order by using the Shop Online section at www.fallshaw.com.au. We will be able to deliver the wheels directly to you. The cost for the wheels are $66.44 each (GST inclusive). Alternatively you can pass the code to the Statewide and ask that they order those exact wheels for you.

Now I have the problem that I've just finished making six axles to fit 25mm bearings and they are solidly welded in.

Last time I purchased Fallshaws, the shop was doing a special deal for land yachters.

IIRC, as long as you asked for the manager and told him the purchase was for a landyacht - for a bit under $100.00 you got the package deal of 3 x standard wheels with knobbly tyres and tubes + plus bearing adaptors and sealed bearings of whatever size you wanted [as long as they had the bearings in stock]
He also threw in the nylon bushes for the steering head when I picked up my last set.

The old shop used to be in Welshpool, but the new distributor is in Malaga [or Wangara??] both are heaps easier for me, being about 2 minutes from home.


Ribbed tyres - Mullins Wheels were the supplier last I knew, but check the tubes are the correct size.
One of my tubes was too skinny.

Thanks Stephen, I guess I should have checked here first but I'm already committed on these. I'm just waiting for the genuine Fallshaw wheels to come in but it's stuffing me around with my build that I want completed well before Christmas. I went with a known and previously trusted supplier where I've held and account for the last 15 years. If that price is still current it's about half the price I paid

Easy roll have discontinued stocking them which is a bugger. The explanation was there just wasn't the margin to handle them. They were very good with their service and I still get my steering head bushes through them.

I haven't bought wheels for a few years and they were much more expensive than that I reckon Stephen.

The 6005 2RSH SKF Deep Groove Bearing - 25 x 47 x 12mm will go straight into the fallshaw wheels. You will just require the "thinner black adapter",
I hope the width of the total hub is the same to retain the wheel on the axle for your design. From memory they end up 108mm wide.
The 6004 that we all use are 20x 42mm OD and 12mm wide and use a thicker black adapter in Fallshaws.

Hope you get it sorted as it all gets pretty confusing.

must admit it was a couple of years ago.

iirc, at the time - regular price was around $60 per wheel.

Would be noice if the current distributor could do a similar deal.
