Don't forget to put some safety belts in. Interesting build and a good effort.

my only suggestion is that you might want to put a U shaped strap under the mast step to stop it tearing off with use.
otherwise it looks like a great fun machine. the kids are gonna have a ball

I see a lot of Blokart users in Holland, but I never see the diy-people who built a landsailer by themselves. The building is for me also the fun part. I don't want to just sail on the beach, but I'll like to sail on the beach in something I've built myself. So I was curious about other dutch builders and I can use some advice about my sail, like where to find a sailmaker with some experience in this kind of projects.

That's good. I also like building my own yacht, I think that is better than buying one.
At the Eindhoven University of Technology we got the study association of Mechanical Engineering, called W.S.V. Simon Stevin. Since I am still studying, I am a member of that study association. For over 40 years now they are building their own land yachts and take them to the beach, mostly at IJmuiden (the Netherlands) or de Panne (Belgium) to go for sailing a couple of times a year. There I had my first experience with building in land yachts.
Now, I am building my own class 5 land yacht at the workshop of the study association, with a lot of help from this forum. (You can see my progression at www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Land-Yacht-Sailing/Construction/Designing-class-5-yacht/). I am not fully finished with it and at the moment I am on an internship in Singapore, so for the next 2,5 months I cannot complete it. But when I get back, I will finish it, test it and hopefully enjoy it for a lot of time.
At the end of the topic of my land yacht, you see a photo with the sail in it. I have had the sail made at Scaldis Sails (http://www.scaldissails.nl/) and I think they did a good job. You could have a look there for your sail as well. They made some sails for some yachts of the study association as well and we think that they do a good job. They also make sails for blokarts, so surely they did some more jobs on sails for land yachts.

Scaldis sails do a nice job indeed.how ever, making it yourselve
From an surf sail realy issnt that difficult.there is a verry good tread on this forum whitch i ypusd a couple of times. A sail and mast is to be find on marktplaats and afther a recut it works great on a landyacht.
All you need is a stirdy sewing machine and a tough needle like a jeans or a leather one.
Beside's if you made the cart, why not make the s ail aswell.

Hello Maarten, and other Dutch builders

One other crazy head , land sailer here from Holland.
As a wind and ice surfer for many years I can help you with the trim / set up windsurfing sails on the nice cart you build.
I am using them for 2 years on my land/ice sailer and did many intresting tests.
Maybe with runners you can use yours on ice to.
Questions are welkom any time.


For me windsurfing had stopt now for this season 2013 so I start sailing on the beach as long there is no strong ice .
May be it would be fun to have a meeting for Dutch self builders, I am open for any sugestion.

Tried the landsailer. It worked fine. I only have to do some minor adjustments. Next week I'll get my re-cut sail back from the sail maker and I'm curious about the performance.
