We drove 90kms north of Kalgoorlie last weekend to have a look at this lake as a landyachting site.
It was a bit soft for cl 5 yachts and would suit minis in a southerly blow, but i think it would be ideal for buggies and boards in any winds . the spot in the photos is facing south and the area seen is the southern half of the lake. surface is a sand/mud/gypsum and can be driven on by light 4wd if it hasnt rained. this spot was 2.5km off the bitumenand 2wd accessible. 15kms away is CALM's Goongarrie station homestead which has accomodation.
the spot where the photo was taken would also make a good camping spot

Big flat, and exposed enough to get some wind. Accommodation local to.

Are you tyres not wide enough? our barrow tyres are really narrow, is it the weight of the land yachts, I guess the kites probably half our weight in the buggy as they generally pull us upwards.

OUr minis would get away with it in a good breeze, our tyres are probably the same 4.00x8. A landyacht tends to get a greater downforce on the leeward wheelwhich will slow you I reckon a kite drawn unit wouldnt have the same problem. plus the best wind on this lake would come off the scrub country behind. So a kite would have a better chance of a great sail. we have a few buggy and board sailors appearing at the lake lately but when we are there they just seem to go somewhere else, which is a pity cos Im busting to have a go at a kite. even to watch and learn, see a kite and see if it would be easy to build one
