While I believe proper lessons should be mandatory at the very beginning for the sake of oneself and others' safety, and gear should be chosen in a way that it is both safe as well as suitable for the conditions. You are doing well and most importantly are aware of the risks and trying to stay out of trouble. Keep on practising, learning from as many people as possible, get rid of that board leash, and play in an area which is dedicated mainly to beginners as this is how you will progress quickly and safely. Goodonya for posting this also. Just don't learn from the poleys to 1. Have a picknick chat in the middle of the pond, 2. Change direction without looking or trying to cut through others path attempting at running them over, or 3. Tailgating even when it is obvious that one will have to turn. Enjoy and be safe!
whose that? what leash? Am thinking mainly of andy with super cool.orange boots and heaps of funky gear and nimble movements and a few other chaps inc chap with kids who fixes cars and chaps who rides with kid of front..very inspiring. forgive me not remembering alls names yes some.poleys do do that there for sure and have only come across one rude kiter who hogs spot..anyway thanks again. leash wont be there when fear of white pointers has gone and dont want to loose my board in the pond and piss people off bodydragging.did big waves leighton today amazing how tired someone can get in twentyminutes compared to a nice easy spot safety bay area.anyway thanx again and russ why didnt u tell me u had a seven for 250 just bought the same 300 oh well happy with it"..
oh yup and its a total relief being able to do it in an area where u feel safe for the parking compared to what i hear about woodies point (sadly)..
Hi guys, glad your enjoying safety bay, it's bloody nice down here. I'm a every day walker down at warnbro dog beach and would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out. Walking my dogs down the beach after a ****ty day at work is the one thing that always cheers me up. I noticed most kite surfers are usually up near the penguin island however lately the odd one is showing up down near warnbro dog beach. I appreciate that as kiting become more and more popular that is must become crowded in these area. however the kites for some reason scare the **** out of my dogs and is making it increasingly hard to enjoy the one part if my day which I really look forward too. I would really appreciate it if you could ask people to possibly say clear of warnbro dog beach area, or at least stay a little ways away from the beach, the waves are small and crappy anyway. As dog people we are restricted be council as to where we can walk out dogs on the beach so I don't have a lot of choice as to where I can go. A little help here would be greatly appreciate, enjoy kiting

Hi Wayne, guess you made the effort to register and post politely so you deserve an answer. I have not seen anyone kiting near Warnbro dog beach really and it is not very likely that kiters would leave Safety Bay (the pond area) and go to that beach. I can only assume someone must have been doing a downwinder. I am not aware of any restrictions. So if these guys came a bit too close to you and your dog all I can suggest is try to approach them next time this happens and if indeed their kites come too close to where you are.
I think you are actually quite lucky where you are. I am sure you will agree if and when you visit Mersey point dog beach which is shared with a lot of kiters, kite school even. Somehow we cope and try to respect each other. I would prefer to walk our dogs always at the closest dog beach but often move to the next one to avoid the (kite) crowd. There is room for improvement on both ends with regards to understanding each other amd respect each other's way to enjoy the water and the beach. So as a kiter and dog owner I hear you. But it is difficult. So all I can suggest is if you think someone comes to close and poses a risk to you and the dog, speak to them personally. Otherwise I hope you are fine on that quieter part of the bay. All the best
With the usual wind direction it takes a few tacks to get to the dog beach on a single tack from the pond especially when there is some decent wind swell so I'd be surprised if you see many kites down there. I only get to Raymond place stairs. Don't mean to be rude either but no ones going to stop kiting there for one dog who may or not be there for a short period of time in the day. Maybe buy/rent a trainer kite and get your dog comfortable around kites.. and you never know you might enjoy it :)
that 'rude kiter' (local) that doesnt ever give way when u do gave death threats (pointing at them and slitting their throat while in/on water) to a girl you know andy. And she is bloody good kiter. would.like to talk to u about it sometime.i have heard of a crAzy rude agro swearing windsurfer in margs down here.when i see u will chat its wrong and certainly made.me.uncomfortable so i know how she feels
shame because everyone else is polite curteous and lovely
think adam is one of the other "greats"
Death threats? C'mon seriously? I can only hope he had a bit of a seizure situation or so. Did you talk to him afterwards? Have not seen anyone doing this. Best to approach him then immediately I'd suggest and get him out of the sun maybe. Predominantly very friendly people around here.
Wow-ee ![]()
What does the guy look like, what kite does he fly?
Who is the girl?
Im a local and down there often, although not so much last couple of weeks, and haven't seen anything like this.
There has been the odd occasion recently where a few of us (including myself) have had a polite word to visitors who continually short tack or never venture outside of that little bay/section of the flattest water inside the pond (to explain the typical etiquette), but thats all I know of..
Hope it was not me either. A few weeks ago I was yelling at a poley pointing him downwind to the windsurfers section as he decided to park his gear in the area we are trying to come in and do tricks (in my case crappy low level something) i.e. the circuit upwind flattest but still deep enough water. There was that girl on the pink Cabrinha out as well (who was there last night as well). So hopefully my gesticultion and yelling with a bad accent did not make her feel I am pointing at her. Will approach her next time I see her just to be sure. I was a bit loaded that day towards poleys constantly doing what they do (see above somewhere) and at some stage it is just enough of that crap.
i am serious! i wanted to go and talk to him especially after learning he did it to her too...but she asked me not to she didnt want the hassle.its really bad behaviour.its been a good five weeks from u guys learning heaps..he turned up approx a week ten days go maybe a miner. hangs out only around the dredge boat at end. glasses.
hows that for pointing fingers??!? so sorry i didnt want to write this but wrong irritating and uncomfortable![]()
Ah mate I am relieved as I am not wearing glasses. I hope he was just visiting and moved on. If not, I am sure we will be able to witness some of his uncontrolled hand moves in the future and with mutual efforts we might get him explain or understand and stop this. A few more hints as in kite brand etc would help but I understand you do not feel comfortable doing this. That's ok.
In general, the pond has some obvious (map) and not so obvious rules as e.g. the circuit (outwards downwind, into the pond upwind, do your whatever and leave downwindish). As a new arrival or newbie or visitor common sense suggests that one would either talk to people to understand the rules (and to get an idea about how shallow it is in some spots) or if shy observe and learn. Even when I was a bloody Euro without Australian citizenship and not yet living here I did not have difficulty to see that this circuit is mainly used by advanced riders doing some freestyle tricks for which it is important to have flat water. While I do some mickymouse low level old fart tricks and flat water helps a lot with those also, I know my place in the kite skills ranking and I bugger off to other flatish areas further south and only enter the circuit when it is rather empty. Problem is we are all very friendly here hence we rely on everyone using the mentioned common sense and observational skills to realise that there are some soft rules existing. I know some of the kiters (and a lot of them ride worse than me, sorry for skipping the understatement here) ignore those rules and kite upwind in the flat section despite not doing tricks as they like the sound of the flat water or something. Fair enough. But I guess they should still try to obey the circuit and not short tack and be in the way of others. Guess that was what default try to say.
So what I am trying to say is in a crowded spot like this everyone should use their brains, eyes, ears, tongues. And it is very ok to identify the agro guys who cause trouble and agitation or even accidents.
Thanks dude, happy riding to all of us!
Hey Tim, yes that is not nice at all, whoever he was. There are some lovely people out there but also a bit too much testosterone some times, and best thing is to approach the person and try to have a normal explanatory chat.
But to put on a funny side, are you sure the sign he was doing was like "I'll cut your throat" and he wasn't not trying to say something different? Just because for example once when I was kiting (outside of the pond:)) a couple of weeks ago I wanted to wave at someone I met before who was coming close from the opposite direction...well for some reasons my right hand did never leave the bar completely but only my middle finger stood up and waved alone...:)))) and obviously it all happened very fast so I only realised what I just did (giving the finger to someone I wanted to say hi to!) only too late :)))) So sometimes even the nicest gestures can turn into something not too nice, inadvertently :))))

Thats how they say hello in rocko / wanbro and mandurah ![]()
My mrs was standing ankle deep in the water, 1m from the beach at 3pm before it was crowded and some girl (kiter) told her the water is for kiters not swimmers lol.

Cheers Wayne. Great way to get your message across. I agree that the dog beaches in Perth are too few and you've got a right to walk your dog where it suits you.
As a kitesurfer I'm concerned that the wowzers out there will complain about our sport and as a result councils will set BS regulations about kitesurfing that will cause us to have to crowd together in small beaches as a knee jerk reaction.
Maybe we can keep this in mind and give beach goers a bit more space in this area. Just a suggestion ![]()
matt..nathan..kyle..elastic man1..elastic man2(jasons dad?)..drew..craig ;drew2....Scott from Byron...the list goes on nice helpful ones! remembering some names now![]()

Haha charming way to get someone into kiting. Did your Mrs accept and ask for her to hand the kite over?
Yes Tim now I know who you are talking about. Can you elborate a bit more on what your chat was about and how he reacted. It is a bit cryptic. I recognised the 2009/2010 black Vegas (yesterday he was on a blue Vegas same year). He was in the pond once. It was just me and him and nevertheless he was trying to run into me on his surfboard. I swear I had to avoid him last minute when I realised this was no joke and he means collision. I was a bit too shocked that something like this is possible and thought such a mental person would not be around for long. I was wrong. He is doing his backroll kiteloops in front of everyone put on the seaweed bed area just south of the dredging boat, clearly not taking into consideration he will end up downwind and run into other kiters he could normally easily pass. I was watching him doing this today and yesterday, almost running into my gf and another female kiter and myself. It is a question of time until someone gets injured. I wanted to speak to him but he rides upwind to land near the blue toilets / wa aurf or further soI did not have a chance. I am thinking about creating another post specifically to warn people and to try and get in contact with this agro person.
Create a post mate! i went and spoke to him had never felt i had to do that before . everyone else is curteous/apologetic for any'mistake they make' on the way to kite stardom(lol). Talk to you know who before she goes. If i was a local..well..to be honest i wanted to say to him' if i see or hear you have done that again i will report you to the police or jason or whoever'...it cant be done..not that kind of communication in the water.anyway will write privately you know all of the scene down here and are helpful with good advice for all..as far as i am concerned you are positively knowledgable kind and helpful. it pissed me off what i heard he did to her ..and he said to me she's not a good kiter???!?!? what do you think of that?! lol
n.b to "non-safety bay people"....jason is kiteshop training guru here![]()
sorry to be rude.thanks
people make mistakes.they apologise.that makes it all 'ok'..we all 'live and learn' etc
that behaviour and attitude is different and needs collected statements... get that before she goes and get some more![]()
wow, hard to understand, kryptic posts, heavy weather, poor form . Any chance the above posters and learners can take their kites ,boards and dogs and aggro and spend the weekend closer to warnboro dog beach. The pond will return to normal and off course there will be more room for me in that sweet butter flat section. hmmmmmm haha![]()

Yeah mate. Will take the agro dickhead item out and create another post shortly in less kryptic form. This guy is a concern and people should be warned. I hope we will be able to make it a safer place if everyone tells him that is not something he will get away with. So far it looks like he does. So he continues...
