Where you learn should be decided by where you live and your access to water. I.e. I live in the Northern suburbs, so I kite at Pinneroo Point in Hillarys where Darren Marshall of Australian Kiteboarding School gives lessons and also sells gear (I think he also offers a gear plus free lessons package) - he and his team are great - I recommend them.

What ever you do, make sure that you get lessons and if you choose to buy second hand gear, that you have lessons first so that you can try the gear before buying.

Welcome to kitesurfing - you will become addicted.
