I'm planning to spend a month in Perth from mid Dec to mid Jan and I'm hoping to get some local advice.
I weigh 91kg, and ride a 135cm Jimmy Lewis, and have a 10m, 13m and 15m kites. I love to be well powered, and love my 13m around 20kts. I have read that the wind in Dec and Jan in Perth is 15-25kts, but others have said that it is really 20-30kts in the prime afternoon conditions. If it is 20-30kts then I'm just bringing my 10m and 13m, but if it can only be 15kts then I might bring the big boy too. Appreciate some local advice about the wind conditions in the afternoon.
I'm also planning to rent an apartment for the month, and unfortunately I won't be able to sort out my driver's license before I get there to rent a car, so I'm wondering what the best neighborhood /area would be to live (easily get to some wave spots, near bars and restaraunts, etc.).
Many thanks,
Peter from NY, NY
Depends on what kind of a season we have - last season was a ripping 20 - 30 knots most afternoons, but we occasionally have a season where the sea breezes are not blasting every arvo - all depends on the air temp, el-nino / la-nina stuff etc.
Scarbourgh would be the best spot if you want wind, waves, booze and food all in walking distance.
Hey Peter
last year was the best season yet, and the early signs are for a repeat of last year, leave the 15m at home, the 13 will do you fine you might get 2 days a month where you can use it, the wind is pretty much on or off, between dec and end jan last year i think i kited 35 days straight!! like you I'm around 92 kilos and have a 12m as the main ride and an 8m for when it blows its tits off!! If you get here and you need a 15 buy one in the buy and sell section and sell it before you go home!!
