Hi!
I and my wife and 5 years old son are planning a kite trip in WA from 11th December till 5th January. We are from Slovenia (EU) and it is going to be our third time in WA. Great place for kitesurfing and we really love it. Our plans are to get as soon as possible to Gnaraloo, stay there for a week or more, than go to Exmouth for a week and then go slowly back to Perth, stop in Coro, Dongara and Lancelin.
We would like to ask about Wedge. We haven’t been there but it seems to us that might be good wave kitesurfing spot. On 12th December we will be there and the forecast predict a good swell. What do you suggest better go to Lancelin or Wedge? We prefer wave kitesurfing. We will have 5, 7, 9 and 12 Park Naish kites. Yes, we might leave 12 at home, but anyway if we take with us it will be windy and we will not need it. If we leave 12 at home it will be less wind and we will need it. Murphys’ law.
What do you think is it necessary to book a place in Gnaraloo in advance? I read on official Gnaraloo web page that in December and January might be crowded. We are planning to be in Gnaraloo (depends on wind) sometimes from 15th to 24th December. This is before Christmas and New Year time and we hope to be ok. Exmouth might be hot at that time and not so crowded anymore even though that it will be Christmas and New Year time. We will have 4WD campervan.
Six years back when we were last time in WA, sometimes we camp on wild with our campervan. Are there any changes? We know that officially is not allowed, but do they make troubles if sometimes you stay out of camp?
Thanks for any help. See you on the water. Matjaz, Katja and Naj

I think the main rule is not to camp within 3ks of a commercial camp site as the shire rangers may ping you for that.

Hope you have a great trip! There is a heap of wind and waves forecast for the next week.

Lancelin is better for waves ,but there are waves all the way to wedge from lancelin.
