I'm thinking of doing a 2 day mission from Perth to Lano. Has anyone done this and if so any pointers (apart from white pointers that is). Advice/suggestions appreciated. At the moment I'm thinking a buddy system with waterproof backpack with clothes/GPS/phone and possibly a second kite.

Not alot of info here. It 56 nautical miles in two days from scarb beach to lano, if you can do it in a straight run, your going to cover alot more distance than that by the time you add a few zig-zags. Where are you planning your stop over? whats the plan for the mornings when theres no wind and you dont have any dry gear?? How you getting back from lano? What happens if you break gear halfway there? Big challenge...Good luck to you. I would rather drive straight to lano and spend two afternoons enjoying my kiting with all the dry gear i need for a good fun night in between. But everyone to themselfs. Once again good luck!

Hey the_cro,

It has been done before by several guys, but all have done it in one hit Pinnaroo to Lano. It takes about 5 hours and the guys took food and energy bars, plenty of water, phones in waterproof bags and always went with a few guys.

Best to drive up the day before and leave a car up there. Make sure the synoptic chart leaves no shadow of a doubt as to wind strength and duration. Good idea to take a basic medical kit too. Phone a couple of people and let them know what time you intend to arrive and that you'll call them when you're in. Decide on an action plan as to what others are to do if you don't report in and stick to the plan. Carry a handheld VHF so you can call for help from boats if necessary.

Check all of your equipment BEFORE you leave and have a look at nautical charts to discover where there is shallow reef to be aware of. Make sure you have a repair kit for your kite and carry a spare pump.

Above all else, underestimate your ability and over estimate the conditions and take preparations for all eventualities.

Have fun,

KH
