Hi everyone,

In next December I will be in Perth and I would love to go to Monkey Mia.
The issue: I have no driving license. I though it was possible to take Greyhound buses, but on their website they say that all dates are not available, even for next summer...Weird.

What happens?

If it's not possible, is it easy in December to find buddies that want to share the trip costs?

Many thanks!

Adrien

Thank you so much JimJones! 330$ for December!

Monkey Mia and around (Nanga Bay) is a great place for beginners I assume?

Thanks!

yo adrianm youll get plenty of backpackers or travellers heading up from perth ,put an ad in the backpackers and youll get up for the share of fuel, ive also a mate that makes the trip from perth to denham on a regular basis,as hes a fishing guide for dirk hartog, the are plenty of safe places to kite all the way up from perth and at denham if you need a list let me know, bon voyage,a bientot

Glad to hear that; I don't think i'll be able the take the plane (too many kilograms of baggages and my boards will have to be transported as freight, so it's likely to cost $$$$...).

I keep your fisher friend in mind for the trip (and I'm very fond of fishing..).

I don't know many spots around monkey Mia, just these ones:

Sandy bay looks awesome...too far unfortunately.

Unless I find a kitsurfer with a van, I will probably stay at monkey mia hostel, so if you know some great flat spots around Denham/Monkey Mia (I have no drivers license so I'm not sure I'll find someone to bring me too far from Monkey Mia), don't hesitate to tell me!

Many thanks cauncy

take a crossword book with you...

MM is one of the most boring places I have ever been to in Australia. We did a wasted drive from Kalbarri to Shark Bay/Denham.. When we got there we were very dissapointed. Nanga bay is a hotel/resort.. With no wind it's not worth going.

People will red thumb this comments but I swear it's the truth. Apart from the dolphins which are strictly regulated there is nothing really there. And wind wise it's a long way from the actual west coast so no seabreezes reach inland to full strength.

Hey, if your going to monkey Mia, stay there for half a day to check out the dolphins but all your good kiting is on the Denham side of the peninsula. Winds on the Denham side are way stronger and more consistent. You can kite right out in front of Denham townsite or drive south and do some huge downwinders back to Denham. You can launch at the oceanarium thing 10km south of town. Stay at the campsite right on the beach in Denham, north end of town and you can launch and land right there if you want. Just beware of shallow rocks on the low tide.
It's not the best flat water kiting in the world but it's only small chop on the water and chasing stingrays and little sharks everywhere is awesome fun. Don't launch near mangroves, too any stonefish near them.
We did a week thong trip over new years a 2 years ago and it was epic fun, 20 to 30 knots consistent every day, and super warm all the time!
Have fun!

Thank you all for your answers.

Although I will only be in Cairns for 2/3 weeks, I hope it will be enough to find some buddies to go to these spots...
