An update on things regarding the Nationals.

1. We have the services of a public relations manager. She is a very experienced journalist with her own public relations company with a lot of pull media wise. She has put together a media release schedule leading up to, during and after the event which will see high exposure, high quality coverage of the event in press at least.

2. We are less than a week away from finding out if we have exclusive sponsorship from a major airline. At this point it looks better than positive, but I don't want to get everyones hopes up and then have it fall through. If we do get the sponsorship, then it will mean that competitors chosen from all over Australia by their relative associations will have their airfare from Perth to Gero return, included in their event registration fee of $150.

AKSA stipulated that this Nationals is to be "for the riders" so I'm doing my very best to provide as much value for the $150 as humanly possible. (t-shirts, breakfast,lunch...night time entertainment)

We have a commentator locked in for the event. He's from Adelaide and is the Australian X-Games, BMX, and National Triathalon series commentator. Hes very proffessional and has been doing his homework on the sport of kiting for the past six months already.

We have Redbull coming up again with a couple of their teams of girls and guys to hand out product and their tents. Redbull will also be providing a heap of product with alcohol in it for evening entertainment supplements.

Cindy Mosey has thrown her support behind the event and has expressed her interest to be head judge for the womens component. Head judge for the Mens will be AKSA founder and past president Steve McCormack who volunteered his services to that role.

As far as the event goes,
We will have the wave event in front of the African Reef...waves permitting. There will be a race, it may be a stand alone thing...."dash for cash" sponsored by a local business.

There wil also be a National champions division....which will be the State or team....that places highest collectively over the duration of the competition to foster a little more internal competition cooperation.

The Geraldton tourist bureau has a free 1800 number (1800818881) that anyone can call to organise accomodation. It ranges from total budget tenting, to Four star at the African Reef. Holidays house at Pt Moore are also available (right across road from event) The Batavia Coast Caravan Park is also walk across the road close.

We will have a shuttle bus happening for the event for those who choose to fly but can't afford a hire car. All dependant on the Airline deal. It wil be a limited service to get you from your flight to your accomodation and back to the airport again. Id expect that kiters from each state will be in contact with each other through their various local associations to pool resources and money to look after each other.

The event has the usual full support of the local kiters and wil shape up to be a great time "for the riders".

I would encourage all the Perth crew to make the pilgrimage around this time as you will see some great parties and great kiting in some of the best conditions possible. Lets make it happen... there's only one way that will come about....by supporting it.

Makes sense having an airline company sponsoring the big air event!
They'll have to go pick up the winner from the stratosphere.
