After a stack at Melville two of us lost our kites - one of them got stuck in the power zone and ended up dragging them both to Pelican Point.
By the time we arrived there we found some legend called Dave, who's apparently a regular down there, had rescued both kites before they hit the bird sanctuary. Never got to meet him as he was out kiting while we were cleaning up the mess.
Anyone know how to get in contact with him so I can say thanks properly?
Good to see Melville silly season has commenced...
Only way 2 kites get stuck together is if 1 or both people were careless..
Melville always seems to attract a high caliber of riders to which they are welcome to enjoy that fine spot!
That fine spot WILL NOT BE THETE FOR LONG AT THIS RATE. CAB season soooooooooon TO
CAB or Crab?

same same
I and a bloke with a big, Ned Kelly beard grabbed the kites off him infront of the bemused birdwatchers out on their regular Tuesday evening patrol - you know, the ones who often shout at kiters to close to the bird sanctuary "You! Hey, you there. Not here! Not here!".
Over the sound of 25kts it sounded like the kite catcher said he was 'Dave or David'.
Well, at least you've done all you can by posting this thread...
Hey.
Not sure who Dave is. But can you please explain how this happened a little more?
I was in the water getting my board on with the kite at 12 when a guy came through at high speed from behind and wrapped his kite around mine. Suspect he was part of a lesson as I didn't see a board and there were a few people on the beach with him. I was too pissed off to ask rational questions afterwards.
Anyway somehow one of the kites got stuck about 10 and in the window, and kept yanking us both out of the water. I released my safety but thanks to the tangle the tension stayed on. Given my complete lack of control and still being dragged along strongly I released the kite completely as I figured otherwise I'd be hitting the shore at some point at high speed. I'd hoped the kites would crash but it wasn't to be.
I'm interested to know what else I could have done in that situation, though I hope it doesn't happen again. I'm also going to start looking for some quieter places to kite.

No scary sharks or big scary waves which keeps the learners in the river. Its such a bad place to learn though....trees, cars, park bench right in the rigging area, bugger all beach. Leighton and the first woodies beach is a much better option for beginners i think.

If he had a big Ned Kelly beard I reckon it would be Dale Stanton
