Hey fellas,
Travelling through Shark Bay and Exmouth for two weeks next week. Anybody got some tips for places to launch/ best places for flat water?
Plenty of options at both due to them being pinnacles, so east and west winds work, at shark bay you've the big and little lagoons, town beach north and south of the boats, at exmouth there's a few flat water spots plus good wave options, talk to tom at exmouth kite centre he,ll point you to the best spots
Do you need a 4wd to get to big lagoon? I have a jeep grand cherokee but it has no offroad mods. should be right?
Just got back from Shark Bay. Not sure about Big Lagoon (haven't been) but Little Lagoon is great flat water spot but can be a bit gusty. Access would be fine with your vehicle, you can drive most the way around the Lagoon (access track from car park (entrance slightly north from picnic area). It's a good size so don't be fooled by the name. Took me ages to swim across LOL. If wind is not so strong, Town beach (North of Town) has sand beach currently being drenched and is great flat water spot due to abundance of flat water. Sometimes a bit shallow depending on the tides. Is tide is out, try the Lagoon. If wind not so strong, do the town beach. Out of town you can find some nice sandbars north and South. Don't bother with shell beach unless you want a surreal experience. Hope the wind is good. SE work well in Shark Bay.
Big lagoon is a great spot, although the fast moving tide can be a pain if the wind is not super strong. you shouldn't have any trouble getting to Big lagoon there is a sandy hill right near the lagoon that an cause some problems but just make sure your tyres are down from the get go and don't rut the tracks out for the rest of us. Have fun mate, maybe next time you can come long with us! www.adventurekitingwa.com.au
