Hey all,
Recently went to the cocos keeling islands for some diving and thought I would give kiting a go.
Loved every minute of it.
Buying my gear as we speak.
Anyhow, I am at the level of standing up and moving along, so very early stages, but progressing quicker than I could have imagined.
For anyone who is new to the sport or just looking to head out for a kite, Im always keen to head out.. ( when not working... )
It would be good to learn a thing or two from some one more experienced or just head out with someone who is new in the game like me.
Look forward to it!
Jack
Also, I would be hugely appreciative if someone could throw some locations out there for certain wind directions...
It would be good to know some locations so im not kiting where im not supposed to!
I live 10 mins from safety bay and work near henderson...
Well you're pretty much set for locations. Outside the spit at safety bay near the yacht club is a good learning spot. Stay out of the pond units you are fully competent though. Shoalwater is really good as its cross on in a seabreeze.
It sucks but you'll get very few opportunities for safely learning before October seabreezes kick off. Be careful and have fun.
WAKSA website will be a good place to start.
i second what ApatheticEnd says.
with the normal S/w summer sea breeze outside the spit at safety bay is a great place to learn but can be busy in summer with the schools doing lessons and all the other learners.
shoalwaters the same but the water is deeper and that puts a lot of learners off.
as tempting as the flat water looks in the pond looks it's normally to busy for learning and is to dangerous with the busy road only meters from the shore.
if your ever unsure talk to some of the locals.
yeah cheers.
not interested in kiting in the major areas like the pond, untill im a lot better.
would prefer to keep to myself untill my skill is up.
Plenty of learners to get out with. Try and find a couple riders that are a bit more skilled than you and chat them up. There is no need to kite alone and it's a sport best enjoyed with a couple mates to have a beer with post session.
As long as you ask when you're unsure people will always be cool. It's knobs that rock up like they own the joint that get people's back up, especially if it's clear that they're tourists.
