Do most kiters on the west coast have a 6m kite? Or is a 7m or 8m the smallest you need? I might head over there soon, and wondered will I need a smaller kite for the times when it really blows......
The smallest I ride is a 7.5 even on a surfboard. Kites now have a good depower so no need for much smaller unless your spending all you time in the Midwest . The most common size around the beaches are 9&10 .
I thought this was about six packs, and the answer is yes
Depends on whether you are on a tt or sb and your weight I suppose. If on a sb and around the 80kg mark and it is nuking 30 plus then perhaps 6m makes sense. I see 5m kites on those days, otherwise a lot of 7/8 on tt.
+1 to what Nathe said, no to a 6 if you're staying down around Perth and the South West, if your planning on spending time further north in the Midwest then you'll want to consider something small or you'll miss out on a few sessions on the water.
6m is my most used kite. Been wanting a 4m actually.
Depends on your weight, board and how you like to ride.
6m is ok for Perth, but been to Gero a couple of times maxed out 1 hour after the seabreeze has hit, some guys on 5s and 4.5m were last ones left still kiting
got a 5m Neo and bust out every chance
love it and love flying it, best kite ever
but does need plenty of puff, but we do get that :-)
Here on the Sunshine Coast an 8m covers me almost always for the higher wind days. I plan to go to Geraldton which is obviously a different rooster and have considered getting a 6m just for the nuking days. I like riding well powered on a tt and from what you guys suggest, I could probably do it. If I come across a well priced 6m, I might get one anyway. Cheers for the replies.
I ride a 5m Airush Lithium with my 5'10 my surfboard most days it's blowing above 24 knots in Perth, which is quite often.
I'm 75kg. Anything above 25 knots and my 7m is too much.
Further south around Augusta I've had sick sessions on the 5m as well.
So yeah, 6m or 5m are good for Perth and SW in my opinion (obviously depends on body weight and twin tip vs surfboard though)
5-6m if waves and surfboard 7-8 if twin tipping. up here in gero that is what I see most of.
Hi..yes..8/9 do most days here now
Only have one kite a 7m drifter. The bottom end seems to be almost as good as the 8m I recently came off. Paired with a big surfboard I get out more than enough.
