I was pole dancing in the pond at Safety Bay yesterday. strong winds and everyone having fun. Teabaggers getting some big air! It was pretty congested and tricky staying out of each other's way. A couple of minor air traffic incidents, which didn't really concern me (Me blue hard hat, black sail). In both cases, the kiter turned around came back and apologised. I just want to say that I was really impressed with this behaviour - good on you - great attitude.
happy sailing and have a great 2016!
Great to hear. I thoroughly enjoy 30+ knot days as it reduces the number of kiters naturally. A real bless. Glad those who for some reason detached from their complete gear on the ocean side did not harm anyone neither caused an electricity outage as the little fence stopped either kite or bar (3 of those I saw in less than an hour). Good idea to stay on the upwind ocean side for those who like ejecting their gear frequently.
Hey there Stretchy, I was one of the offenders you mention mate! It's only a courtesy to admit when you're at fault I reckon but unfortunately not everyone has this view. I sailed for 20 years before "switching over" 5 years ago but still enjoy the odd blast on the windsurfing gear from time to time, so I have been on the receiving end of a wayward kite or two, especially when kites were in the early phase of development with depower and control.
30 + knots can have an unpredictable effect on a kite in comparison to a windsurfer and this is what led to me cutting you off after the second loft hit mid jump and took me further downwind than I thought. It was only right to admit fault asap mate.
We're all out there to enjoy the wind and water but it still amazes me how many people forget this fact! In the close confinds of the pond coming togethers are a given, but a simple apology when you're at fault goes a long way right? It amazes me how a proportion of kiters have a sense of entitlement in the pond sometimes it feels.
The agro vibe that exists in the pond might subside if folk remember what got them into the sports to start with....
All the best to all for 2016, let's hope it pumps for months to come!!!
