Seasons Greetings All,
Heading on a 2 week campervan road trip next week. Very excited!
Heading south from Perth to Albany.... possibly Esperance (depending on time)
We've booked a sweet campervan.... But, as far as I can see, there is not a single campsite with vacancies between boxing day and Jan 10th anywhere.
The plan is to just drive... Call some places on the day for cancelations ect and worst case scenario just pull up in a carpark.
We've got a couple of days booked in Bunbury but after that theres nothing.
We'll be fine.... Right??? :)
Also.... bringing 7 and 10.... 70kg.... Should I bring the 12??? Boards and wetsuit top will suffice??
Thanks guys.
Mate, You'll be fine!
Most small towns that welcome tourism will have over-flow campsites on public ovals, etc.. Yes, not the best, but then you have a sweet camper ![]()
Be mindful of car parks etc., the rangers may hit you with a fine.
Enjoy it!
Yeah, very busy time of year over here you should be ok if you're self sufficient and don't need power.
Try the national parks they have designated camping areas (still a camping fee $$), they will busy particularly if its close to the coast but if they're full try some of the sites a bit more inland you should find something.
There used to be book "Free campsites in WA" which is very handy for those little out of the way campsites, I think they still sell it camping shops and some servos, otherwise research campsites before you leave as there's limited reception and they can be very hard to find if you don't know where to look.
Also you can't camp in carparks and rangers will be out in force and they're usually fed up dealing with the D#$kheads so do the right thing.
Hope this helps, have fun there's some great little spots out there if you're prepared to search.
Also.... bringing 7 and 10.... 70kg.... Should I bring the 12??? Boards and wetsuit top will suffice??
For the south coast, this time of year, and I am about to head down there myself, also 70kg:
- I don't kite in boardies. I like my short arm 2mm steamer, or long arm springy. I think I even wore my full steamer a few days last summer. BUT I'm a big pussy when it comes to cold.
- Check the graphs and realise that bringing a 12m is a must if you are on a twin tip. Lots of 15-ish knot days. You'll get a couple of strong easterly days on the 7m but mostly I would bet you use the 10/12.
Its fine. Water is warm. Kiting in Boardies already. Hope your camper is 4wd, otherwise you'll miss out many of the best spots, but still many places you can get to 2wd. Every one heads to the towns of Albany or Esperance, but it is the vast coastline inbetween and on either side that hold the treasures.
turn the bus around, chuck the wettie out the window and bring your 7, Midwest wa is in full swing and plenty of kite/camp options
Check the app Wikicamps out. It's a rippa it has all the free sites and the ones you have to pay for. It's what we use when we travel.
And as cauncy says head north it'll be pumpin' ....... and warm![]()
