Hey Mates! I'm living in Dunsborough and wondering about the best Freestyle spot here? What directions are good for both Spots? Was in Augusta once but very gusty on the river because of the dunes. Is it always like that?
How does it look like at Australind?
Cheers

Augusta only works well when the wind is completely SE, and yes it will always be gusty, it's the price to pay for such mirror flat water. Further away in the inlet is less gusty due to dunes being much flatter.

I haven't kited Australind but I know many have and i'm sure you'll get advice for this location.

Otherwise, Bunbury works great on the ocean side but choppy and you can also try Yallingup, there is nice flat water there between the beach and the waves (reef). Can get a bit off-shore especially if the wind is S or SSW, but SW and WSW works great there.

hope this helps,

Christian

Yes Augusta is pretty much always gusty. Not sure what the situation is now but last time I was there water was very shallow too and full of algae further into the inlet. Australind is not too bad, flat-ish water and less gusty. But the wind is usually not very strong unfortunately. Also gets very shallow in both spots so watch out.

Dont kite the flat water there, a lot of people swim in that area and if there is an interaction between kite and swimmer, the local council will most likely stop the few kiters that frequent the area, if you kite the breaks take off down towards rabbits

Moved down to Australind in August. The wind in the estuary is horrible but it's your only flat water spot. When it's strong enough go the northern side of the jetty opposite the cristal Chem plant.

I got a kite in once at australind! Got to about 17knots. every other time ive been there, there was no wind. I found it really hard to stay up wind there and everyone else was ending up way downwind. Maybe the river flow has somethin to do with it but not sure. Its super shallow too. i got a solid weekend in at Augusta and it was so epic. was gusting to 30knots n super flat. id be goin augusta hands down. wouldnt waste my time with australind coz it always had let me down.
