Boys, can you tell me about the progression of the WAKSA meeting and what is happenning with the signs and if the sub commitiees have achieved anything good from that night![]()
I noticed that Ian Young has answered a lot of queries on membership to WAKSA which is very helpful, however,it would be great if someone on the Executive could respond to my suggestion about signage/clothing that was posted on the WAKSA topic board a while ago....
Also, I'd like to know the latest on the motion to upgrade the wording on the membership forms. At present, the forms do not indicate any information about insurance, legal obligations etc; and it is imperative that these aspects are made transparent to the members, so we understand exactly who and what we are covered for/against and for how much. I don't believe that it is appropriate to merely refer people to the Net, as at present there is a distinct box around the area for the signature in the middle of the page, which could suggest that information outside this box is not relevant or applicable to the new member.
If this has already been ammended, accept my apologies; if it hasn't, I will be considering whether or not to renew my membership.

It's a good point you make bon.
after the meeting there seemed to be a storm of suggestions, comments, and general discussion about what everyone could do to improve things and protect the locations we use from bans etc.
after a bit of time has passed however, there seems to have been a little bit of difference in 'local' consciousness of safety and generally trying to do the right thing... other than that though, there doesn't seem to be much improvement in communication between locals and non locals, and to the public, even when there has been offers of press release prep, website design etc to assist with the positive promotion of the sport...
although i don't know both the ian's personally, i am aware that they both have businesses to run, which i also do, so i totally understand that a huge portion of your time must be applied to this, however, i know there are plenty of people out there who are genuinely willing to do invest time into the welfare of the sport we all love.
i guess i am saying that i would love to make a positive contribution to the sport by offering time/service (if my professional help is required) to the guys. perhaps we could revisit the whole 'committee' issue and try to get people on them who are more able to make a contribution that reaches everyone in the sport, and those who really matter outside the sport, to ensure we're able to continue practising kiting in the areas that we love to use.
any comments/criticism regarding my points would be great :)

by offering time, i meant in assitance to 'the ians' in their official capacity (so to speak)... not as a criticism of them, more as an offering of help if it's required.
hope that is clear...

John Geyer and The Cottesloe Sub-commitee, Matty, Malcolm and myself, are meeting with the Post newspaper and a Cottesloe City representive at the phone box on tuesday morning the 9th March at 9.30 am to tell the Post of the positive changes at the Cottesloe kite site. These are dune repair, new access ramp(rumor)signage(rumor) and the new improved kiter attitude to other beach users.
The Post newspaper had another BAD KITER story to tell about a kiter verus windsurfer tiff, at the phone box two weeks ago. The POST have given us the right of reply, hence our meeting tomorrow. Watch the POST newspaper for the result.
