Dear kite wave downwind fans

Im flying to Perth the 11th January and have been trying to book a kite wave downwind safari between the 11-22nd January, however I cannot find a tour operator that can arrange safari’s around those dates, so I was wondering whether I should try to arrange it myself and give the $1500-2000 to a couple of you local guys.

Im hooked on kite wave surfing downwinders. I have been doing a lot of kite wave riding/down winders in North Denmark, Cape Town, Cabarete, Taiwan, Kenya in 1-3 meter waves on strapless surf board and slightly larger with straps. The downwind tours I have done are upto 140 km in one day and I would love to make them as long as possible. In attached link you can check some of my trips www.endomondo.com/profile/3332329 I have done a lot of these downwinders myself with a cab driver and a tracker and satellite sender, however due to the rought nature of Western Australia, I would prefer to have mate on the water and a designated driver.

My dream of coming to Perth is to do 40-90km wave downwind every wind day (riding the waves) and I would love to just start in Perth and end in Geraldton/Coronation Beach a week or 10 days later. (with a possible stop over at the Lancelin Ocean Classic)

In July I will be doing 1000 km downwind in East Africa to raise money for a charity, so I need to practice and hence my trip to Perth.

So my question is; if I treat you and cover all the expenses upto to $1500-2000? - are any of you experienced local guys up for some fun and chasing some waves?

Cheers Jacob (from Denmark presently living in Hong Kong)

I would love to hear his advise on how i spend my $2000 most wisely to maximize downwind practize. so if you have his contact details or you have the possiblity to forward my post to him, then it would be highly appreciated

Have you contacted this mob? www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Events/Event.aspx?id=8858242

also Kitewest in geraldton do tours as well. You sound pretty specific in what you want to do which might make it tricky for an operator.
In Perth there are a few who do down winders as well. Todd at down winder transport on 0400 206 854 does a daily sorrento to fremantle run in his troopy.

Otherwise rent a car, find a backpacker who can drive to follow you up the coast.
Take care!

I have found in my travels in wa that you can organise down winders pretty easy on the run.A gero to coronations down winder could be organised easily at coronations beach.Try organise one from lancelin to wedge island at the main lancelin kite beach.2 of the most touristy kite spots in wa , but a great place to find like minded adventures!.

there's this guy for the normal Perth downwinder. it's a great downwinder, if I were you I'd just do this ten times instead of leaving the city.

Thanks a lot for all your replies, my comments below:

Dear Dave Whettingsteel, thanks a lot - yes I have contacted the kite safari mob you referred to, but unfortunately they cannot help me on those dates. also tried to contact kitewest, but they need a Group to make sense of it. your suggetion about renting a car or Motor home and get a backpacker to drive it up the coast is an excellent idea, then I just need to find a local guy, who wants to join me on the Water for this adventure, anybody outthere?

Dear Diamond2001, thanks a lot, - great to know that it is possible to arrange lancelin-wedge and gero-coronations on the go - in general im keen on longer or alternatively arrange lots of these stretches, but its a good backup plan.

Dear psychojoe, thanks a lot, ýes i saw Upwinder and Downwind transport - reallyt awesome services - how are the waves in the city compared to lancelin-wedge and gero-coronations?

<div class="ha">i guess my question is with $1500-2000 in the pocket, how do i position myself for most downwind waves?

well here's the thing about travel kiting,
you never know what the conditions will be like until you get there.

I spent a week in Tarifa Spain and failed to get one good day of kitable wind.

I'm not really familiar with Geraldton, but I understand it usually has more wind, but sometimes too much

you'll get a lot of nice little one metre waves on the downwinder, and it's fun just to hop straight from one break to the next

the waves are often twice the size around scarborough and trigg, but there'll also be surfers to avoid in this area, and you can't kite too close to shore when passing the lifeguard patrolled beaches.

I suppose my suggestion would be to have a back-up plan and then just keep starting new threads on this forum. you might just inspire someone to go on a road trip.

good luck
