Have been trying to master changing direction when jumping, end up nose diving off the board or losing power and sinking. Any tips on how to achieve this??? Cheers
dependant on direction of wind, come in with some speed kite parked at 10, then edge hard sending the kite to 12 at the same time pop, pull in on the bar and keep kite overhead at 12, then force yourself to look in the opposite direction which brings the body around a tad, a quick look up and down to judge kite position and distance from water then slowly redirect bringing you down in the opposite direction with an aggressive redirection just above the water, straight away have your kite on the upward stroke followed by a downward stroke with bring you away with power, you can break it down into a couple of stages , safety first stay out a tad in deeper water then your not sucking sand, it may be against you natural reaction but letting out at the bar just gives you a heavy stack, as long as you've got the kite overhead , arnt overpowered and keep the bar in youll come down a lot lighter
a couple of photos so you get the jist of head and body position when coming down also look at the bar position as in redirection, and hands to the bar centre, very addictive jumping transitions you keep pushing the boundaries,
Thanks for that. Photos a good reference. Yeah, I kept stacking or landing down pretty hard. Think I'm mainly directing board up wind to much aswell and catching an edge hard. Giving the knees a bit if a work out. Will let you know how it goes. Cheers
Do a regular jump and just do a down loop as the redirect, let the kite fly out the other direction
Otherwise, "air gybe" is the term you could YouTube...
Cheers. Not quiet kite looping yet...... Looks like a sweet transition, hoping to master before seasons out.
It's not a real kite loop - you're just doing a jump, redirecting and keeping the bar pulled and riding out the other direction. All it requires is committing to landing topside which is easier than it seems too :D
I find that a LOT easier than a proper air gybe - no loop = sink, unless I'm over-powered.
Jeez wayne - sensitive, much? Not sure where you found any malice in that...
A carton on what, exactly?
Ruggers,
I've been working on this a bit recently and have it now worked out. When you do your jumped transition, I found the most important part was to bring your own speed down to almost zero relative to the water by edging hard into the jump. Otherwise, sending the kite in the opposite direction just created a "pendulum", which results in the nose dive you mentioned. Also when sending it back down, do it as hard as you can to get it back in the wind window to make sure you have enough power to accelerate and not just sink.
Hope it helps. Took me a bit to figure out.
