I have just found out there is a proposal to permanently block off access to Eddies for cars.
I don't kite, but have place up there and wanted to bring this to your attention. Very popular with the twin tip and boost crowd and the best sunset spot in town.

The objectors are a couple of angry anti everything people. The shire is taking comments.

Beach access is a very big drawcard for visiting tourists, where else can you pull up with the family, flick down the tray ,set up the family and go for a sail or kite, closing this will have detrimental effects on local buisness too, if the reasoning has been motorcycle / quad/ recreational 4wd then create a zone for this use or at the worst ban it, don't punish the locals ,town businesses or tourists a closure will have a definite effect

The last thing I care about when I'm looking for a good place to kite is where I can get a Over price caramel almond latte. Let's leave a few places were you have to be truely committed to get to
All the best spots are hard to access. Keep the blowin poms, zilla's and euro's away. They have plenty of good spot too go to like the pond or woodies. They have are already made those places no fun to kite. And they crap in the dunes and leave litter everywhere, at least real Aussie try and look after there own environment.
Really who cares about those looking to exploit travellers and locals alike

The reasoning they are using for the closure is due to people driving through the vehicles prohibited area (the short section between the point and the back beach access) to get to back beach. They say the closure is to prevent this......but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact the track onto the beach at Hopkins Street has washed away a couple of times in recent years and council don't want to keep paying to have it reinstalled?

From what I can see it's a storm in a tea cup.

If your to lazy to walk that distance maybe you shouldn't be kiteboarding.
And you must be on ice if you think it will affect tourism

Good luck with the small car park (that is already full). I'd say the kitesurfing crew would nearly make up most of the tourism at that joint. Not much else going on. Better beaches, better infrastructure elsewhere. But yeh close it for sure, less people the better.

The carpark next to the toilet block suits its location....it is crap. Barely enough room to park. Blocking the access down to the point is....well just that, pointless. There is no major impact on the dunes or sand there and it relieves any pressure placed on the carpark which barely fits 6 cars. The poleys dominate that area, and traditionally that is fair enough as it is their location. The point provides enough room to launch and land kites and the cars provide somewhere too tether from. That said, the amount of weed in this location this summer was terrible and it made for a less than pleasant entry to and exit from the water.

There are alternative locations to launch and kite in Lano, so personally not too concerned. Just can't see why they would fuss about blocking it off. Surely there are other locations in Lano worthy of more interest and effort.

Maybe after this coming winter there wont be much of a point, carpark or fishing club remaining anyway with all the erosion happening.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your comments. Information recently circulated by Councillor Frank Peczka flagging the supposed additional closure of the Edward Island Point access track is incorrect. Council is only considering the closure of the short track accessing the beach from the end of Hopkins Street next to the Volunteer Marine Rescue building. No other closures have been considered or even discussed by Council.

so yeah, nothing to worry about.

Ah good. Block that one, never used anyway.
