Hi I'm Looking for some good spots to learn as a beginner.
I live in mandurah and have been going to that spot at the end of estuary rd,
wind isn't always there tho. safety bay looks intimidating, I've had 1 lesson at wasurf, have to book my other 2 but wanna get some practise in before I book them.
Don't mind going as far as Lancelin if there's a good uncrowded spot for beginners?
Cheers
Shoalwater has been kind to me. Most of the regulars there are supportive and helpful of newbies who use common sense and are respectful. There is a kiteschool there and the instructors have helped me with tips etc with some of my dramas.
It can get crowded I feel on weekends but I suppose that applies to most places. The doosh-bag brigade turns up every now and again, but that also probably applies to most places.
Applecross ( Melville ) is crowded and the wind is often gusty but I still think its the best beginners spot .. Normal sea breeze (SW) is generally cross shore , shallow water for quite a way out , plenty of people around to help if you get in the ****e.. you generally have a good 200-300m down wind run before you have to do the walk of shame ...
Point Walter dog beach on the morning Easterlies ...
Also Wannanup is fantastic for learning ... not sure if that's the same place that you have been going ??
Enjoy !!
Yep wannanup is the go on the north side of the dawsville cut.I cant believe u have not seen the kiters there. It stands out like a dunny in a desert!
I got a mint condition airush switch 135, perfect beginner board. I don't need it anymore, you can have it pretty cheap if you're interested ......
i lived in mandurah for a while and didn't do much kiting there. Mainly because i had to drive 2 hours a day to my job. Theres a good spot in Bunbury thats very flat and suitable for a beginner. Its at the canals. There has to be a westerly or southerly for it to work. There hasn't been any decent wind in the last 3 weeks to be honest. Hopefully it'll pick up. For a while there you could go out 3 or 4 times a week every week if you wanted to !
Safety bay sandbar is good.
Key thing to remember is having the right wind for your kite rather than flat water
For example, Melville is flat but the wind is patchy so difficult at times for noobs.. Plus crowded as f$&k
I would just get out wherever you can and practice. If you are keen it won't be long till your cruising upwind
