Hello, Happy new year to all ![]()
I'm a french kitesurfer, I will arrive at Perth on the 12th of january for a year, to kite, work and improve my English. I will take 4 weeks of English curses at Edith Cowan University before searching a job.
If you have advices for a job, it will be good. I did studies in computer assisted design, I am 21 years old, and I worked a year and 4 month in car industry. I will prefer a job in my skill domain, but in a first time, I will take an other job. ![]()
I don't bring my kites with me, because I want to buy 2007 kite and board, I want to try a lot of kites if I can before buying it, which shop in perth propose to try before buying ![]()
I will see your spot guide, to search best spots but I only tried once a good wave riding (there is no good waves in the north of France).
What is the best transport to go to the spot, because I don't intend to buy a car.
Hey Enicao!
Lots of q's. So I'll try and answer them for you...
First of all welcome to West Oz! Where are you living, cos that makes a big difference to the spots you go to and how you get there?
If you can catch a train, the Fremantle line will take you to Leighton Beach. Get off at North Fremantle and follow the signs to the beach. Once there you have to walk about 500m North as there is no kiting/surfing/windsurfing around the Fremantle Surf Club at Leighton Beach. Basically walk to the big bridge over the railway line.
You can also catch a bus to Pelican Point - not sure which one, but find which bus goes to UWA, and that will take you close to Pelican Point.
Buses can also get you to Scarborough/Brighton. Others will be able to help you with how to get to spots further north. Oh, and when you get there say hello to the other kiters and I'm sure you could probably organise a lift.
Most kiteshops offer some sort of try before you buy. Checkout Airborne (Osborne Park), Windforce (Nedlands near Pelican Point), Choice (Spearwood/Sth Freo), SOS (Freo) and Kite Addiction (Myaree). All of these shops will help you out (sorry if I missed anyone).
There aren't many good wave riding spots in Perth - Leighton and around Scarborough are ok for beach breaks. Real surf spots are north and south of Perth, like Lancelin, Margaret R, etc. If you're learning in waves both Leighton and Scarborough are great places. Scarborough is a little bigger than Leighton and has more consistent swell.
Best of luck and hope to see you at the beach.
Also keep an eye out for the Kitestock details on www.waksa.org.au. It's a great event on in Feb and you'll meet heaps of other kiters.

no real bus to peli pt... long walk with kite and board
www.seek.com.au
lots of vacancies in local shops as a waiter, sales assistant, hospitality area (you could work in one place after another exploring the coast as you go)
Thanks for yours answers ![]()
The first week, I will visit Perth and the spots and buy kite
I have reserved the first week in an hostel in nortbridge, after I will see.
I will search on internet for the shops you indicate
It will change a lot my kiting conditions: I live at 200 km from the sea, Air and water are actually 10°C (It's winter in france), Except in winter I go kiting every week end with friends.
