"The 2015 El Niño is now well-established and continues to strengthen" www.bom.gov.au/climate/enso/

Did I read somewhere this might translate into a good season for the central/mid west?

Pretty simple observation a wet winter gives a ripper of a wind season, we always get very good wind in the Midwest, just some years have stronger averages and come a bit earlier and stay a bit longer, our nwest frontal sessions have been few, but there's been the odd session to be had

El Niño is a Pacific Ocean phenomenon, but we do get an indirect result which is an increase in the number of cyclone's. These are bad news for the west coast as they usually kill the sea breezes.
just my opinion but I think El Niño is bad news for WA, but not as bad as it is for the east coast.

Just skim-read towards the bottom of this link

http://www.climatekelpie.com.au/understand-climate/weather-and-climate-drivers/western-australia

Which says an el-ni?o actually reduces the freq of tropical cyclones in Western Australia (la-nina's are the opposite and produce more.)
The one thing it had in common with the BOM literature is that WA does not get affected by el-ni?o's much.

North and central America absolutely pump (surfing wise) through an El Ni?o though so book your tickets ASAP.

So my understanding is that El Nino will give WA stronger sea breezes and more drought. Sucks for the farmers and the surfers but early 25knot sea breeze every day sounds good to me...already upgraded my quiver with a 7m just for this season!

That article is referring to the east coast.

Hahaha ops your right! too late, got a crispy kite at home..

A little more reading on the topic on the BOM site regarding the Indian Ocean Dipole and El Nina, as mentioned it relationship isnt well understood but we've seen 50-60% chance of a positive IOD when El-Nino is in play. Positive dipole means cooler water in the "East" indian ocean and dryer conditions inland so similar conditions to El Nino in the eastern states.

"Three of the five models are prediciting postiive dipole for Spring"...fingers crossed!
