Been 4 months now, and I can barely recall more than a handful of days with 25+ kn winds for 4 hours straight without thunderstorm warnings or bat**** crazy rain fronts. Has it been like that for the last couple years, or are we having an exceptionally poor season?
I was in Rosebud yesterday and Brighton today. Can't complain about this winter for sure, some super sweet Northerlies and even without cold fronts. Makes up for the summer a bit
I moved here aroud 2005 and it was windy, many days on the bay were too windy to kite with 100 kmph winds occuring monthly or more.
I do remenber many locals saying the 90's were **** house with lots of rain and unrelaible winds, but the 2000's were epic due to a almost 10 year drought.
2010 to 2020 was a mixed bag but generally more good years, the wind seems to stop around 2022 ish and the last 3 years approx....have been unreliable.
What seems to effect the weather and in Victoria is La Nina / El nino which is the pacfic ocean tempretures, the La nina years tend to be cooler with more rain and ****ty winds while the El Nino hotter with more wind. The next big dry will bring the winds back again, who knows when but i would say around 2 to 3 years away as a complete slighlty educated guess. !!!
You really need to tavel to get wind in the bad years.
Yeah back around 2020 it was the same deal with El Nino/La Nina. That's why I was so surprised about last summer with no winds despite El Nino. Looks like that volcano eruption could have something to do with it:
Wind & wave chaser here from the states. Couch surfing in Melbourne for 2 weeks and plotting a day mission to catch some swell. Ping a DM if anyone is interested this week. Maybe Flynn's or the ocean side of Mornington P? Appreciate any info.
