Hey guys,
Have moved to Brissie from Sydney with work, and just trying to figure out Wellington Point...
Went to Wellington Point, and there are signs that kiteing is prohibited, but people say they still head out there. Where do people head out from? Just don't want to launch from that sandbar infront of the carpark and cause issues for everyone...
Thanks for the help!
Terry
Good on you for asking man!
Ask anyone down there, the council are a real pain in the ass and will find a way to fine you even when were in the right so be careful.... General rule to follow to keep your financial state sound ($500 fine!) is to pump up/run lines below the median tide mark. To be safe that is around 20m off the high tide mark or on the sand bar out to king island. The council can't govern these areas.
Other then that make sure not to leave ANY kiting gear on the reserve anywhere... Carry it from your car and dump it where you are pumping. Sometimes that isn't even enough they will try and fine you, so just keep an eye out for the dogs.
As I said to start cheers for asking man, we really don't want anything escalating in these regards. We want to preserve our home and cherish its sanctity!
Say hey on the water man, I'm normally down there if its blowing (or even tempting!)

Awesome news that they haven't banned it completely! I was unsure with that sign, council are bound to trick you into a fine I figured. I've been watching the kiters for years, I live down the road at birkdale.
Im doing a course in Tarifa, Spain ATM, and will hopefully see some of you guys down there this summer! Just searching for some gear
Question, is kiting banned on Public Holidays? It gets busy as with picnic goers alone, I thought the council might tighten up on that, what's the official word?
Also it probably goes without saying but be really respectful of other users. My old boss (in his 60s) hated kiters with a passion, I was a bit shocked that he had that attitude, and found out it was because "my g/f almost had her head taken off by a couple of them when we were trying to walk out to the island"
Not my local but look in the windsurfing section, currently the fishos are up in arms about parking there, whatever you do don't park in a car+trailer park like many tourists do.
Fortunately I can cycle there with ease, I know what you mean though re parking, there has been issue with that for years, especially now with all the kiters.
And also, I'm not socially irresponsible in that respect, I see kiters rights skating on thin ice as it is, I wouldn't want to add fuel to the fire
