maybe this is old news to some, but i think this is new 2010 stuff in the surfFX ferry road shop??
Can anyone recommend (un biased
) a board out of this lineup for 10 - 15knots-ish with 12m kite. I'm about 70kg. Not jumping much and not using in waves, and mainly just looking for getting going in as light wind as possible, but trying to avoid a huge board if possible
G'day Haircut,
I'm not up on what's hot for 2010 but if you're looking to get going on a 12m kite you'll
want something that fairly flat bottom and I'd stay away from channels.
Board needs to be square tipped n bout 138-145 x at least 43cm wide.
Also check out the nobile XTR light wind boards.
Just my own opinion on the above.
I was kiting for 2hrs yesterday in 12-15 knts with a 12m Dos and a Nobile 555 134x41 at manly but the water was pretty flat, I'm 82kg.
Chris.
thanks chris.
So squarer tips and flatter bottom (no channels) is the way to go for early planing?
i did notice many have a more exaggerated rounder or curved edge legthwise and was wondering what effect this has on the performance of the board?
the boards in the the photo are from my local shop which i'm most likely to buy the board from, which is why i thought it might be worth you guys seeing what i have to choose from
thanks again ![]()
Hey haircut long time no see your barrel rolls at shears.... I spend most of my time on the ocean (mainly narrowneck) as I have moved to a surfboard. In regards kite board something with a bit of length 130-140cm with 40cm width would be plenty for a flee bag like you! Rounded tails are more free ride and handle choppy (shear water) conditions and go well in the surf and a variety of conditions!
Square tails are more for pop for wake style riding... I would recommend the Naish Sol or something similar (rounded tail) as they are very forgiving and can be used for a wide range of conditions. With a 12m sail at your weight you will be lit on a McDonald's tray! Read some of reviews and discuss with Greenie I'm sure he will help you find a good board... see u out on the rough stuff mate!
Jeff
