Hi There,

I'm planning on driving up to the sunshine coast (and possibly further) for some kiting downwinders. This will be for 10 days after xmas. It seems the main campsites are full over this period.

I dont really want to pay for full on accommodation, anyway it is also probably all gone. happy to just park my x-trail and sleep in the back, dont need power.

Are there any good spots for this, surf clubs with usable toilet/shower would be good.

Are the authorities pretty tough on this?

Grateful for any suggestions - Matthew.

Mate youd be absolutely fine to camp up in your vehicle on the sunny coast theres crew euros and aussie vagrants doing this every night. Out of the way spots youd be able to have a fire no one would give two hoots.

Thanks for the info,

The $5 does not phase me, over the holiday season the man caravan parks powered sites are 50 a night and they are full.

SO you reccon I could get into on of the park like the noosa park, and just sleep at one of the parking lots or side roads without being hastled out.

Matthew.

i dont know wtf the other blokes on about but ive lived in my car on and off for years. im telling ya you got no ****n chance in hell just chilling out casually staying night in a carpark by the beach over xmas period. your only chance will be npws when booking in advance and paying the 5$ a night fee.

old mate fishing hat up here has seen a few campervans and just figures thats how it works. it doesnt. you might get lucky one night or 2 but itll cost you hundreds, the euros and travellers who do do this DONT get away with it. they get fined. there fine gets sent back to there village in germany and they just refuse to pay it for remainder of there life. the aussies who do do this get FINED then if they dont pay it there drivers licence gets taken off them till they pay the fines.

sorry to rain on your parade, theres actually a few spots that are doable but not dureing xmas less you head outside the rangers range. sunshine coast has been pretty sneaky at removeing drinkable water taps from public aswell. the shower water is nearly allways undrinkable and same with most the bathroom tap waters.

Mate just drive 5-10 mins away from the beach and you will be fine, changing spots every night.
Water from the public is just the same, unless it is signed, even then you might be able to get away with it, I know a few surf clubs in VIC, NSW and QLD that have just put signs up saying "do not drink," rather than re plumbing their taps lol.
Just go to boat ramps and use the taps that people use to hose their boat down with - bring a tap handle with you as some of them don't have the handle in an attempt to stop people using the water.
