i havn't riden in wello in years. I am going to be in the area on sunday and was wondering where you set up to ride nowdays. I am aware you can't set up on the grass, do you have to do it in the mud? Cheers

Yes, all set-up, landing / launching at Wello is supposed to be below the high water mark. Council rules apply, and fines have been known to be given.
Looks to be more Southerly this weekend, which isnt great for Wello, but high tide is around 8am, so you should be good for some sand to set-up on just off the northern corner of the park. Launching from the west facing beach in front of the playground wont be an option due to the wind direction.
If there's wind, I may seee you there, there will be other kiters out no doubt, so you'll be right 
Booties recommended, but thats your prerogitive, most people wear them.
