Hi there,

Just thought I'd put it out there... any suggestions on getting started?

Am looking to buy a kit in the next few weeks, have already checked out a few stores online & will venture out to some shops over the next couple of weeks. Any suggestions on shops in Bris or the Gold Coast?

And what about brands? Should I get gear that's going to be easy to learn with, or stuff that will carry me through for a little longer? I noticed one store that allows you to "credit" the cost of lessons to the purchase of your gear but am not sure if this is going to work out any cheaper...

If it matters, I'm 190cm (6'3") & 100kg. I had some lessons about 2 years ago but couldn't aford the start-up costs at the time.

Cheers,

The Big Babou

I would suggest learning with a school that is close to home as that is where you are most likely to do most of your kiteing.

Asking about brands will always get a mixed response. Maybe look for features you want which you will be more aware of after your lessons. Other than that if you go with a major kite brand you usually cant go wrong.

Most gear now you can learn on and will still be able to advance, just let the sales person know what you want to achieve from your kit.

No the lesson credit to your gear usually doesn't end up any cheaper as it will be priced into the gear.

Yeah what Jason said is on the money. Go to a shop in your area and ask heaps of questions.
If on the Goldy pop in and see us and if here on Saturday come in to our FREE theory class which might get you started again.

One deal to check out also if your quick is the Naish deal of buy a 2009 kite and get a 2009 twin tip for free that saves you about $1000
