Heading up to Port Douglas 13th-18th Feb, is it worth bringing my gear?
What sort of winds 15-20knots looking at Low Isles on the BOM?
Guessing stingers are everywhere?
Cheers
Mate it's really all over the place this time of year. Maybe just chuck a 12m, but really it's pretty average right now.
if you have heaps of space bring the gear if it is going to be a pain leave it at home - there is rain and short infrequent storm gusts so the chance of kiting is slim.
Don't listen to the nay-sayers mate. I've been kiting almost every 2nd day up in the tropics, with or without rain. A 12mt is minimum but a 14mt even better in lighter winds. Yeah 12mt should be about right.
Bring your gear 'cause you never know. I've been kiting only in Townsville, but I can tell you it's about the same up at P.Douglas. Rain everywhere, but watch the radar carefully, time it right and you'll be scoring nice sessions mostly on your own with the beach to yourself. I had it like that yesterday and it was awesome! What more can you ask?
Cheers boys...
Fair to say if I do bring the gear it wont get used....If I don't bring it, then you guys will be on like Donkey Kong everyday!!
Flying Jetstar / Virgin. Wont have any other bag than my kite bag, so shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience.
What's going to bite me up there? Stingers / Crocs / Bull Sharks / Sand Flies?
I usually ride in boardies and a sleeveless 1mm Synchro vest, not sure if that is NQ friendly??

Don't go out in boardies. Stinger suit is a must mate. You just don't know (or see) what's in the water. It's the time of year and last thing you want is people pouring vinegar all over you to ease the stings. They bloody hurt! Trust me. The crocs and sharks are the least of your worries.
You can get some really funky stinger suits these days with patterns, etc... I once saw a guy in a spiderman stinger suit. It was awesome!
