Moving to QLD. What kite sizes?

Hey all,

I'm moving to Brisbane from the UK in February and will be buying some new kit before I come over. Currently on 11m & 7m C kites in the UK but not sure what sizes would be best over your way with the warmer air. I'm 75kg and would be looking at switching to bow or hybrid kites for better windrange and to learn quicker (beginner riding both ways but finding it tricky with old C kites).

Probably just go with a one-kite quiver to start with but may go with 2 if I can get a good deal. What do you guys reckon would be a good size to go for if just getting one? How about if I was getting two?

Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

Rob

Our season ends around May here so you should still have a couple of what's supposed to be warm summer sea breezes. Saying that we are officially summer now and yesterday people were out in wetties! Season has been very late, in fact I have never seen such late coming in the 12 years I been here.

Anyway, on an average day in the summer, we get a good 13-20kts of seabreezes, so for you at 75kg you'd probably be out on a 12m most times. Every now and then we get the 20-30kts low pressure SE.

We have tons of gear on clearance right now, PM me what you are thinking and what price you are getting in the UK. Might be worth getting them here. Will save all the carrying too, as well as warranty issues, just in case.

Just bring your c's over and decide when you get here. Your 11 might be ok to still use. I rode an 11m last year and i am about 85kg. Your also best to wait till your here to demo some gear instead of second guessing what"s best for you over here.

Cheers for the replies.

Because of the current exchange rate, it makes sense to buy kites here, bring em over and sell my old kites in Oz. Otherwise I just won't be able to afford them straight off the bat with all the other emigration expenses.

Sounds like 12m with the occasional 9m weather then if flying a bow/hybrid. That about right? I've been offered a good deal on a 10m Ocean Rodeo Rise. I'm guessing I'll be underpowered most of the time on that?

Sent you a PM SurfConnect.

It warms my heart to hear this. Over here it's hood, gloves, boots, 5/3 steamer and 2 thermal rashies. And we're not even freezing like the rest of the country is!
