NZ KITEBOARDERS PUT HEAT ON AUSSIES IN NKL ROUND 2
Monday 23 November, 2015; CHRISTCHURCH, NZ: The Classic HolidaysNKL has come to a close in Christchurch yesterday following four days of kiteboarding action at The Estuary and New Brighton Beach.
The Round 2 competitors included current professional World No. 7, Marc Jacobs representing New Zealand in the seven round series, with the top Wave and Freestyle riders now heading for the Grand Final on the Gold Coast in February 2016.
At the close of competition, the New Zealand riders topping the rankings were:
Wave
Men's 1st: Aaron Smith
Men's 2nd: Mike Dibb
Men's 3rd: Karl Soulos
Freestyle
Men's 1st: Marc Jacobs
Men's 2nd: Shane McAulay
Men's 3rd: Jackson Mills
Women's 1st: Polly Crathorne
Women's 2nd: Jemima Crathorne
The Christchurch Cabrinha FX Big Air Wave champ was Mike Dibb and the Big Air Freestyle winner was Marc Jacobs.
President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said Round 2 of the NKL series has put the heat on the rivalry between New Zealand and Australian kiteboarders for the national championship.
“It’s been an exciting few days with some really nice weather conditions, and we've seen some incredible stuff out on the water from the New Zealand kiteboarders,” he said.
“We've had a blast here in Christchurch and we look forward to seeing the showdown between the Aussies and the Kiwis in the Grand Final in February 2016.”
The NKL now sets its sights for Round 3, with South Australia’s top riders preparing to hit the waves in Adelaide from 3 – 6 December.
