Hi! I'm new to this kitesurfing thing. As a girl who is 160cm tall and weighs just over 50kgs, am I ever gonna get this??? My kitesurfing mad boyfriend is confident I will eventually get the gist of it, but I was wondering if there are many females in the sport who could give me a little encouragement. Cheers :)

Hi Angie,
Ive been teaching kitesurfing for nearly ten years, have taught well over 1000 people to kite, and I can confidently say you will be able to get it. Of the people Ive given lesssons, who actually wanted to learn, only perhaps 0.5% were unable to get it. Further to that, most of the people Ive taught have learned to ride the board in under 10 hours training. I guarantee my customers that I'll teach them for free if they buy gear from me. Buy a new package of kite board and harness (about $2700 for someone your size) and I'll give you free unlimited lessons to get you up and riding, confident in your ability and safe to be independent. I know you can learn this sport. I wouldn't make that offer if it wasn't easy. There are loads of girls getting into it. Go for it.
Cheers,
Mike

From 1 angie to another angie,

Welcome to kitesurfing angie. I also can def say you will get it, it does take time and practice but once you've got the basics and are safe you can practice, practice, practice.
With smaller girls i find it's all about getting you used to the power and not to be scared by the power.
Kites are so safe these days, you will be fine and have a blast.

Hi!

I'm a girl and I'm trying to learn right now! This sport doesn't require any strength and I am about the same size as you. I have all the gear so if you want to learn and are somewhere near gold coast, just send me a mail at: tovehyden@hotmail.com

cheers

Hey Angie,
I'm 16 year old girl and probably around the same weight, I've been kitesurfing for just over a year, and absolutely hooked Though it may take a little while to get going, as soon as you are the addiction sets in and you're having the time of your life. Have fun

Hi Angie,

I too never ever thought I was going to get it. I persisted and now I have my IKO ready to teach. Like the other posts on here, I am hooked and refer to myself as a junkie. We have started up a little social group of girlies who kite or want to kite. We have regular BBQ's and social events just north of Brisbane, it costs nothing and we often have demo gear to try out and our head instructor to give tips. There is no pressure, it is just a bunch of girls getting together and sharing stories. You are welcome to come along and have a chat with some of the girls, some girls have been doing it years, other girls have just started and have the same reservations as you. For all other female kiters out there that are interested in coming along and meeting others, if you know someone who wants to try out a trainer kite, drop me an email, Angie if you are in the area it would be great to see you there. Oh we are having one this saturday at 1pm. Drop me an email lyatte@brisbanekiteschool.com.au and lets get kiting!!!
