I hear there are some decent downwinders down on that side of the coast.

The misses wants to move over there after I have finished my CA, so I hope im impressed.

Over from New Zealand and traveling through Sunshine coast around the 27'th if ye guys would like to meet up? Would be great to get some local knowledge. Heading up towards the Great Barrier if anyone knows of any guided trips? Although i hear the wind might not be that strong further Nth.
Cheers.

Winds north of Port Douglas are about 30% stronger than South of Cairns, but of course it depends on the time of year. Best times are on non-cyclone days between Nov and Mar and better yet again from Aug to Nov.

I think you will find winds along the outter reef are far more consistent and steady above 15knots than on the coast. Flinders Reef comes to mind.

You are coming at a good time before cyclones (hopefully not) start to form off the Coral Sea. Good winds here and has been since Oct at least above 15knots after 2pm.
