Hey guys. I'm on the Gold Coast. But thinking of moving to Brisbane for work near the city. My question is how far from the city is a decent kite spot? I'm thinking I would lose my after work kite hours in summer if it takes ages to get there? Does anyone else get a kite in after work up there?

Hey Moustacheo
Ofcourse we do! Plenty of crew out for week day arvo sessions, just depends on your work hours and where your travelling from i guess.
Closest spots to CDB, Nudgee Beach, Sandgate, Brighton & Redcliffe on the northside.........Wellington Point & Victoria Point on the southside.
Travel times obviously vary, but heading north, particulalry on the gateway any arvo after about 2-3pm is a traffic nightmare, its always backed up around Nudgee / Boondal and will cut into your kiting time.
Me, I work at Murarrie and it takes me about 20-25 mins to get to Wello, so reasonably close, and I have managed 2 sessions this week so far (Mon and Wed) 4:30pm to 6:30pm

I've kited all up and down the coast, and just to put it out there... i reckon that as far as flat water spots go... brisbanes brighton/sangate spots poo all over that southport/KFC area. KFC gets so much chop! i guess its smooth near the sand banks, also limited space and pretty gusty/dirty wind. On the other hand brighton/sandgate gets beautiful smooth water if you have the tide right and even out in the breakers is better than KFC chop because the swell leaves nice smooth stretches between sets... and the wind is much cleaner! major let down for this area is the jellies and poo brown water... otherwise it ain't too bad!
So don't be deterred by all the haters, kiting isn't too bad round here at all. Sure GC is nice and if i had the choice i'd probably live there too... but kiting round brissy is good
