Kfc's now under a complete new threat!!!

That would be H2O Broadwater Apartments on the Gold Coast Highway, Southport and a few other new Highrise that were built around and behind it Dafunky. As you would understand from standing at the Launch/Land Area at Kfc's/Len Fox Park/Loders Creek there is a direct line of sight Southward to these Buildings or alternatively if one would like to Google Map the direction, then please go right ahead and knock yourself out

Rays Resort and the Palmerston Highrises were already there when I started Kiting over 7 years ago but as there was less density of tall Buildings the South winds would still make it through, although always a bit gusty (due to turbulence from what buildings were there at the time I am referring to and the Norfolk Island Pines at Broadwater Tourist Park). Instead of as the years progressed and particularly H2O was gaining height and completion along with a few other Buildings, the South winds were becoming increasingly blocked as you would understand from the massive wind shadow that occurs now days in South winds at Kfc's and most Kiters have to go to Shearwater as the alternative in that wind, which as you know limits the areas to Kite/Windsurf flatwater on the Gold Coast which could only be exacerbated as our recreational activity continues to grow at an ever increasing rate and the pressures that are now to be placed on both Kfc's/Len Fox Park and right through to Shearwater from the Authorities planning, constructing and underway dredging the complete Western side of the Broadwater to make this a 2nd Main Channel (to duplicate the existing Eastern side Main Channel) and thoroughfare for Motorised Vessels SAFE! Passage

I'm sure down the track in the future we will be all looking back (if we still have the ability to Kite/Windsurf these areas, if it does not become completely stuffed from Authorities Brainwave thought bubbles without due considerations and Vested Interest Interventions), and saying I can remember the times I used to have ABSOLUTE ENJOYMENT! at this place from Kiting/Windsurfing with 10 of my good buddies and buddyesses out there. So, so sad that it all had to come to an end from LACK OF VISION FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS ENJOYMENT, BLOODY MINDEDNESS, GREED, EXPLOITATION and PANDERING/CATERING TO THE WELL OFF OR OVERSEAS INVESTOR for the mighty $$$'s at the exclusion or limiting those of not only affordability (who understand, care and enjoy these wonderful sports) but those of unaffordability to enjoy freedoms that don't require a lot of $$$'s to participate in environmental low impact, healthy outdoor leisure pursuits or camping and holidaying for that matter of fact

Dafunky, Dafunky, Dafunky, when will you ever learn to use the Force! O' ye of little faith Building structures or landforms that far away do have influence on the winds all the way to Kfc's. Just the tree and sand dune areas over SeaWorld side play a part on effecting the wind and they are relatively low laying. This is why the wind is generally always 1 to 2 knots better on the beachfront than it is in the Broadwater. Take for example on a SSE wind Kfc's is effected by the Buildings as far back as Surfers Paradise as its usually 1 to 2 knots less in a SSE'er there than say being at Shearwater where there the buildings of Surfers have no effect as that truly is to far away and I am not talking in tide assist terms. Check it out next time in a SSE'er at both places on the slack of the tide and tell me I am wrong then? Now as the winds change more to the SE at Kfc's it is usually stronger as it has a lesser disturbance of winds being effected by the buildings as far back as Surfers. I rest my case.

The massive pine trees 50m south of kfc have a much larger bearing on wind coming from the south.
Also as the wind has to go around the building it could increase .Just like it does at the pine trees ;-]

Guess what Ronny, they're going to plant trees all over that new Peninsula, so there won't be any launching and landing from there. I have the landscaping plans in my car if you care to ask me to have a look at it. Also carparking over that side is going to be miles away from the beachfront and it is to be metered payed parking just to lay the boot into us from that development.But it's all happening and not much we can do about this one but to adapt. For those of us that value our Kiting or Windsurfing spots, it goes to show we should not rest on our laurels and help protect these and other spots before they are destroyed, reduced in number or imposition and restrictions are placed on them. KITER'S UNITED WE WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!
