I just don't trust the forecasts, especially FNQ.
Maybe it's because we're in Winter? Gustier? Less predictable?
I mean, when have the forecasts ever been spot on for more than a day?!
Looking at Cairns and compared to BOM, Sbrz is way over excited!

If it's any consolation it hasn't been much better in South East Queensland either. We were meant to have a 20+ day on Sunday but all we got was about 12knots just before dusk... VERY disappointing...

They are forecasting another good day this weekend, so I'm hoping they can get 1 in 2 right at least.

You must have been standing behind a wall or something evila. It was howling all day. The only reason i came in after 3 hours was frostbite.

Depends on how you're reading the forecast. The seabreeze arrows and the BoM marine text forecast are averages for that particular wind zone which usually covers hundreds of miles north/south and at least 10 miles east/west. So in the case of SEQ on Sunday it was blowing well over 20kts offshore but 10-20 inshore, take the average of that and its right on the money. The probability of an averaged forecast ever being right for the point you are standing is remote unless the wind strength is uniform across the whole sector.

If you want to know what the wind is going to be doing inshore for your area start looking at either the 8 day NOAA model (GFS) which I think Seabreeze uses or the BoM 3 day model (ACCESSR) which I think is pretty good. People have their favourite models but I've found the BoM one to be spookily accurate 24hrs out from 0 to 50 miles offshore all up and down the QLD coast.

I treat kiting as a seasonal past time in SE Queensland pack the gear away in April and bring it back out in September. Sure there are days you can go out but anything west is just not much fun. Now if a low moves down the coast which they used too then that's another story.

It wasn't that long ago that we had to go check the coast and look at synoptic s,
looking back I really enjoyed it actually,
Thanks Sea breeze for the heads up on conditions,
But I don't think its fair to hold a forecast for ransom,
If forecasts/predictions could be I'd be at local palm reader asking for the lotto results

Yeah but they are so far off course, I might as well hinge by chances on solar winds around the moon!

Look at Earthnull school.net. Now that's accurate.
