Hey,
Even though I am a new kiter, my kiting addiction is well and truly entrenched. I am wondering how the hell you seasoned kiters make it through winter with no/not much wind?
What's the secret? What other fun, adrenaline filled activities do you get up to during the winter?
Suggestions welcome.

after having first leson,March last year, kitted through winter determined to be ready for summer, payed off ,just had to be ready to go with the wetsuit in hand whenever there was a bit of wind . had some awsesome sessions ...
Tezza
sounds like an idea
what sort of wetsuit would you recommend, short or long sleeve?
and how cold does it really get?![]()
I hate the cold and l kited last winter in a 3/2 steamer.
Velcro around the legs works a treat to prevent balloon legs and to keep a little more warmth
I have been build a big light wind board, used 12m marine ply it's kept me busy hoping to get a 10-15 knot day to try it out with my larger kite.
I'm far from a "seasoned" kiter, certainly addicted to kiting and a wind junkie now though! ![]()
For me, when theres no wind....I waterski, wakeboard and barefoot.
And beer..........lots of beer! ![]()

Hmmm...great suggestions. Am thinking mountain biking, dirt bike, and would love to give wakeboarding a go. How much for a 2nd-hand dirt bike, suitable for beginner? Any suggestions on which type of dirt bike to get?
Thanks,

the winds in winter in SE QLD are still there - youve just got to be more determined and flexible to take them when they happen. Also a thick wetsuit.
enjoy.
when is the windy season? when does the wind return?
I'm moving to Brisbane for work quite shortly and there is only so much I can carry before I run out of luggage space.
normally I'd never *not* go somewhere with my kites... but given the wind would you say I'm better off bringing my mountain bike over with me (I ride quite a bit) and shipping my kites by sea? Takes 2 - 3 months to arrive.
The NE winds should start to turn up around September or if we are lucky they can come as early as late July.
Not a good place for a new kiter. And it wont be a secret spot if we show everyone now will it.![]()

Tunsis.. Bring the bike. NE winds if we are lucky, could start as early as late August. There are some good trails close to brissy. ie Mtn Joyce and Daisy hill. there is a bit of a crew of kiters forming on the goldcoast that will be trying to get through winter mtn biking. No surf, no wind... but plenty of sunny days. Ship the kite
For winter I have started training again - somehow - I get less injuries as a noob kiter lmao... anyone up for some sparring ;p
I'm with the dirt-bikers. Winter is the perfect time for it - less rain, cool weather so you're not steaming in your protective gear, better excercise than you might imagine and you can't beat the adrenaline!
build a wake winch and hit the channels around redcliffe and brisbane. great fun, only cost 2 bucks in fuel and have a lengthy 600 ft run..
