Im keen as it is my local... there seems to be some insurance dramas unfolding though.
Because it is organised by RQYS apparently our kite/sailboarding insurance will not cover us while in the race?
Anyone know the deal here?
Chris.
Had a ball racing yesterday at RQYS, the legs are still jelly!
Was good to meet the local winsurfers and get into racing a little more seriously.
Big thankyou to Goodtime and RQYS for all the hard work manning the boats and organising the windsurfers and kite race.
The novelty Sup and Opti races in the harbour later on were entertaining.
Thanks to Jas at Briskites for the loan of his brand new North Dyno18 race kite and race board. This is an awesome combo and has a much bigger wind range than expected... Certainly had a few of the Windy's worried, my jibes/tacks and physical fitness will need some major work to catch the serious guys.
9 Kites started about 5 mins after the 30 odd windsurfers, I was first kite back to the beach about 6 mins after the first windy (4th across line) I think.
Apparently they are looking to make this a regular thing, encourage all to come and check it out next time.
Cya on the water,
Chris G.
I will try and get there next time chris . Sounds like a top time .
So what did you win hope it was a good drink at least ![]()
Gday Sam,
Goodtime offered up prize packs containing shirts hats etc + vouchers for $150 for 1st, $100 2nd, $50 3rd.
The "keep it fun" format of the day was a beach start, tack upwind to the coarse then complete 3 laps, first back downwind to the beach wins.
Plenty of drinks on hand at the yacht club bar afterwards watching the Sup and Opti dingy races.
Alexandra took some pics of the day, you can see the album here-
