Hey guys,
I recently moved to Curtis Island in Gladstone for work. Do any of you live in the area? I've been told that Tannum Sands is the best beach in the area for kiting, but is there anywhere closer that people kite? Apparently I can't do it off the island which was my first plan when I heard about the job so I'm looking for the next best thing (and perhaps a few kiting buddies).

Cheers,
Alex

Hey mate,

I lived in Tannum for about 8 years & yes it is a pretty good spot to kite with a good local crew. Having said that my brother in law had a cattle property on Curtis and we had many a good session on the front beach wind/kitesurfng over the years. Anywhere from the beach access at Southend up to the bluff is good in a southeaster. Have fun.

Hi Alex.......agreed, Tannum is the best spot. Canoe Point is fun provided it is more than 1/2 tide and some easterly wind...but you still have to drive to Tannum to get there. That sucks if you can't get access to the ocean side of Curtis. I sometimes head over to Facing Island front beach for a kite. PM me your details and I'll give you a call next time I am heading over.

Cheers Ray

Facing Island sounds good! How do you get out there? I haven't got gear up here yet so it'll probably be another couple of weeks before I suss everything out. I'm still tossing up whether it's worth shipping my stuff up or get a hold of some cheap second hand stuff. What wind speed do you typically get here? Is there a consistent seabreeze in summer or anything like that?

hey mate

which site are you on? i work over there too and live in tannum. you can kite either boyne river mouth (best on a NE and out going tide) canoe point which is better on a northlery too or tannum main beach which can be ridden any onshore wind direction. we set up on the grass on the southern side of the surf club and kite around the creek mouth of wild cattle. there should be a few boys and girls down there kiting tomrrow.

I'm on the APLNG project. Just had my R&R break but didnt manage to get a hold of my kite so it looks like itll be a while before I can head out. I'm still trying to find a second hand set up going in the region though. I just wish there were places to rent gear!
