Hey Guys

Not that long ago i went out and brought a kite, as a surfer who has surfed all my life i wanted to give it a go, i also took up wakeboarding a few months ago and withing a month and a half was throwing raileys of water.
I havent had any lessons yet i can self launch and land and water launch my kite.
Im having a lesson next week but heres my questions.

I have bad knees and i have a feeling and from reading other post that straps might be bad cause there isnt as much ankle support, i also would rather save my money and not have to buy a board and instead use my wakeboard but Hayden from ocean addicts tells me that a wakeboard is going to be a lot harder but i dont see, i can edge well on a wakeboard without fins so im thinking if i put the little ones on the board it would be even better???

Plus im seeing alot of people saying its going to be harder to learn in boots and what not? whats everyones suggestions. I mainly just want to start out in the inlet at cotton tree, flat water?

Don't drive a Delica do you?

Don't be cheap, buy a kiteboard. Boots suck for 95% of kiters and wakeboards have too much rocker.

The one thing that you'll need to practise to protect your knees is kicking your feet out of the straps when you stack it or if one foot comes out when you're in the air. The worst thing you can do (with footstraps) is jump or fall and have one foot come out. Then you risk the board twisting your knee.

Just so U know the opinions are balanced - (How does that Delica handle BTW)
Hayden knows his stuff....

kiteboy falls in to the same camp as Hayden - really knows his stuff..

Learn on the board the school provides.

That way U will get a feel for different style - my kiteboard sucked(s) at the cable park. But it is better than the fishing - marginally

Cheers

BTW
Steve - Sydney Kitepower owner - posted a great heads up on knee braces about 18 months back - lots of feedback.. try a post asking for others thoughts re-ur knee...

LOL.. yes I actually laughed out loud

SCB

- look at the buy n sell section here. I reckon $300-400 would get a good board?
- you can always sell your wakeboard - you won't want to use it again
- kiting is generally far easier on knees and rest than wakeboarding. My opinion only
but I used to live at the cable park when I was a young tacker. Just keep both feet in or both out and your knees should never have a problem.

OK U can be down graded --
SCB - KB D owns the previous model to the DELICA - and dispenses a pinch of salt with all opinions[}:)][}:)] and he competes in nobbly knee competitions - his latest claim to fame was 3rd at the Jundah 125 year big bash - after the ugly bum contest was canceled with two entrants - 1 had 4 legs the other XSive flatulence - so although out on the margins of the habitable zone of Qld the one horse town has pride

I will take 2 aces from that lot so 30-love KB-D

Hey there, Suncoast boy,
There's heaps of boards around second hand and intermediate boards that will only set you back $500 to $600 dollars...it all really depends on how much you want to spend straight up! You don't need the pro board straight up and by the time you do you will know what your looking for :) also stay away from boots if you already have poor/weak knees!!! Footstraps are all you really need especially started out, wake style kitesurfing promotes the use using boots because guys are doing there stuff under full load with their kites low and powered up :) but it's risky on your body...
Anyway shoot me a message back and stay tuned for demo days on the sunny coast and Gold Coast!
Cheers Nathan

You need to go get yourself a good board.
Its sooo important

I'd say ride boots for ankle support, but your knees are going to die from unhooked /wake style landings so... yeah enjoy your knees hurting.

Once your bored- jump on a raceboard. 100 times more fun.

I couldn't afford a kiteboard for a while and was riding my wakeboard for a few months when I started.... Although I financially didn't have a choice... It is highly not advisable... you won't be able to go upwind 85% of the time and you are more likely to break your board.
