I had a quiver of the popular bows, which I just couldn’t unhook and ride, as every time I tried, it would either collapse in on itself or would just shoot up vertically.
I bought a delta-C shape kite (Core Combat) a few months ago and have found unhooking (and controlling) for wave riding to be fairly easy.

For those who are starting on unhooked riding, what worked for me was using both hands - one hand holding the chicken loop and the other the bar, so when unhooking, the power of the kite can be controlled - if you get out of control, you use both hands to depower the kite and regain control or hook up again.

Short answer - You can't.
I was suppose to be getting some demo's of the complete Eclipse range (Thruster, Nano and Kima)and was particularly interested in the Kima because it is getting rave reviews for waveriding but it seems Eclipse (as well as a lot of other major brands) are having trouble getting stock from the manufacturers.
I still hope to get some Eclipse kites shortly and if and when I do I will let you know where you can have a fly.

I love my Cabrinha revolver 11m. It it great hooked or unhooked in surf. I ride a 9'6" longboard, so the depower is fairly important.

Takoon Furia. Its one of the few kites that is fast enough for wave riding.

Yeh carbine is onto it, I think if you want a kite for unhooked in the surf then you cant go past c-kites, my mates are stoked with the older fuels, but I've been feeling plenty of love for the 5.5m generator on the surfboard recently. Doesn't need that much wind and is always where you want it and very easy to get it out of the way when you want to do a turn.

Try them all,

Thanks
Matt

Yes, Sasha, the furia 2 is a snappier feel & more low down grunt the bar is neater.
The kite has 3 speeds on the back lines & on the front you can move the bridle lines out towards the wing tip & you get a more powerful kite ( I should say a kite with more flat surface area,) so the kite has more power through the full window & goes up wind more progressively & floatier jumps.
Move the bridle in & you have a more direct feel & power in the turns, very snappy more on off power depending were you put it in the wind window.

It is a much more responsive kite than the furia 1. the Furia 2 is my surf kite not my preference for free style unless you do all your tricks unhooked (so your lines are static no de-power) in kite loops.
If you want to kitesurf on the wave not pull yourself around in front of the waves then you've got to try a Furia 2.

Dos,
Stays right there poised for you to give it a boost. You can ride right towards the kite without making the kite drop...

If you're riding unhooked, you dont want a grunty kite for wave riding.
Grunty kites have a tendency to pull you past the section you want to ride.

If you're into aggressive riding and agile kites the NEW OS kites are just as good or better than most mainstream branded kites.

Demo at kite stock or at the headquaters in Geraldton anytime.

Had a new 10 m Rebel demo for 3 hours in 16-23 knts.
Good kite,big jumps
but still Takoon Furia is faster, more responsive, smoother ,better depower>bigger wind range .
So far Furia is ther winner!
