Having some problems with my rebel hindeberging with little provocation. be that a botched jump or a wave stack as soon as there is a small amount of line slack the kite pretty much nosedives - looks to me like the wind is catching on top of the canopy as the kite isn’t reversing back into the wind window how it should (least I think that’s how it should when some lose of line tension occurs) anyhow think its to do with my line setup as I have changed a bit from out of shop setting.
The rear steering lines are set on the furthest back pigtail.
Both rear and front lines are on the middle color coded knots.
No changes made to the 5th line which is were I think the prob is, I changed the 5th line length were the red line has the knot’s but this seemed to make the kite’s steering erratic..
Reading how others have changed fifth line lengths - has this only been at the red line knots or somewhere else?
The kite’s performance is awesome but the Hindenburg is a worry... nothing worse than being stuck out the back in 2 to 3 meters swell with a downed (add an R in as well) kite. I figured it’s the line setup as haven’t read about anyone else have these issues with the kite and besides being marketed as a wave riding kite, would be strange for the kite to have such a negative trait for such a crucial factor
advice appreciated ![]()

I have set my 12 and 9 up in exactly the manner Dazza suggests. It is perfect. No implodin, hindemburging, dropping from the sky or othrwise.
Thanks for the links mike, I adjusted the 5th line by adding an extra knot on both pigtail centre lines and then tighten the outside lines by adding an extra knot between the two bar knots.
Had a ride today with not the best conditions and while out on the water didn’t seem to have a problem although wasn’t really powered enough to give it a decent test, but here's a strange thing that happened on the beach... came in to talk to a mate that just showed up and I let go of the bar.. The kite kind of almost luffed then stabilized... so then seeing this I pulled in the bar and punched it up into the cleat kind and the kite totally luffed out of the sky... did this almost every time I tried it even on almost 45 degree angle... Bit odd that... next time your out give it a go let us know if its my kite or just something that can happen when misused like that... its not a concern so much because I wouldn’t normally do that while riding anyhow. Got to give it a good upward push though for it to do it....
Maybe I still need to tweak some more ![]()
Hi there , not sure if I missed it but what setting are we talking about on the clam cleat (ie.what colour code .I dont see mention of it on Dazzas tuning tips on the central coast site )I personally prefer the shortest length of throw on the depower also is the intention of all the knot changing to keep all line lengths the same ( North say this is critical)By the way I'm on the 12m any ,any input appreciated......
I have my cleat lines and rear lines adjusted to the middle color option, anyhow kites flying sweet again no Hindenburg’s today even in the gusty winds
Adjusted the 5th line red knot to loosen it a little, seems to have solve the bar into the cleat thing as mentioned in my last post because haven’t been able to make it fall from the sky anymore.
Yup think its time to get a 14 meter for the 15 knot days too ![]()
