Received my new cardboard yesterday and was fortunate to take for a spin. Bought the size 132 *40 as I been riding the 122 single concave underground flex and just doesn’t have enough bottom end for its size.
First impressions... well I got home from the freight depot and like a horny school boy undressing the librarian teacher on a Friday after sex ed class... I ripped apart the wrapping... wow... those graphic really do look sweet. It suits my personality... teddy bear in bondage... yep sicko alright - also the personal tag is a good idea as I used cwamit’s so if lost and it’s posted on the forum... easy for me to find
. Also makes it harder to sell if stolen.
I picked up the board out of the mess of wrapping - thought wow its light... of course didn’t have the fins and stuff on yet... I then flexed it like a c kite rider on the beach trying to impress his g/f's (other dudes) .This board just oozes with flex - I thought at the time well maybe its just because the fins and straps and stuff aren’t on yet... nope several hours after this board still flexes better than a ho in a strip parlor with a hundred dollar bill being waved. I chose normal flex in the options.
The foot pads and fins were not yet set up... understandable as was for me to see what stance width would fit. The pads have similar quality to most top priced boards.
After several trips to and fro from the hardware store to get myself the right sized hex tool and then going back to get a decent socket set because those damn bolts were little critters to get into the board without the ability of downward pressure! In the end got it all together. I picked up both my 122 and the new 132 board... seems the smaller flex is same weight as the cardboard this was later confirmed on the beach when another kiter who owns a 132 07 model flex with the wood core, passed me his board for weight comparison and it was considerably heavier. (What can I say? I like light boards!)
Also the cardboard was about 2 cm longer and a bit wider too. Even though both were sold as 132’s.. Hmm interesting. The cardboard was thinner though so my only concern atm is how well it will handle jumping and landing on a breaking wave.
Anyhow so how does it ride... being double concave it has a more skatey feel when landing flat or turning , this will just take a couple of sessions to dial. I was out in small waves that were only up to head high... it was kind of choppy and didn’t feel any of them... a few advantages of the bigger board were what I was stoked most about. Being able to go upwind so much further I was able to ride waves down the line on my smaller kite with the wind strength as it was... tacked upwind to a nice break spot normally I wouldn’t bother with because would take too many tacks on the smaller board.. Cant claim yet how well it rides the waves as I suck... still having to dial in the board as I did a couple of nose dives when I picked up speed on the larger sets.
Anyhow. I am stocked and for the boards priced... very happy with what paid for.
Btw... Expect two more guys from Esperance placing an order... one of them had a ride, came in and said that’s the board I am getting.. His comments too was about how light it felt on his feet, something about how his other board must have water in it, his other comment was how well he was able to go upwind compared to his old one that's same size.
Cheers for the great board!
