I am 70 kg riding in 11-25 knts mostly / do ya reckon a 9 or 12 is the go.
any owners of either kite got some advice plez....Ta
Howz the kite holding up to wear an tear also plez.
cheers.....Phil
Hi, I am a Best Rep FYI so take the following as you like.
At 70kg probably go a 9m. What size board/s are you on?
On a board like a 133x40 cardboard I reckon you would be going well in about 13/14kts and hold it up to 25-26kts comfortably. Sweet spot about 15-19kts.
A 12 with the same board I reckon about 11/12kts to 18/19kts comfortable with a sweet spot about 13-17kts.
Had alot of hours on both sizes and noticed no wear problems.
There have been a couple of strut bladder small holes due to the bladder not being correctly seated from new.
I am 94kg and ride the 12 in 90% of our conditions (13-30+) with the sweet spot for me about 15-22kts.
I would equate the 9 to be a 7-12m C kite range and the 12 to be a 9-15m C kite range generally speaking.
Hope this helps.
hey Kusu...
wow a 9 that sounds cool,i have a 136 jimmy lewis mutant and like waves the most.
Hows the 12 compare in size to a 12 crossbow just so I can get some idea
I have a 11m matrix at present and really strugle under 14 knots so going to a 9 seems crazy but if you reckon thats what it will go in I'd be stoked!
I'm not a fan of the crossbow (or any of the SLE kites) with the 2:1 pulley type system at the bar. I will probably get flamed here but for me they are sluggish to fly - especially in the bottom of the wind range and don't perform as well for me anyway.(with or without the bridle mod).
So to compare the 12's isn't really fair from me.
If your local spot is mostly 14 or more I would go the 9. If it is
averaging 16 or less most of the time I would go the 12.
Is there anyone near where you are to try them both out?
The 9 and 12 waroo's are absolutely great kites and everyone around here who has one or tried one always has praise for it.
I would get in quick wherever you are though as we are about to cop a price rise in oz.
Really tuff call on the right size for you. What about a 12 with 23/24m lines and then maybe some line extensions for when it's superlight? Could be a good option for you?
Blownaway, the published wind range for the 9m Waroo is 15 to 34 knots based on a rider who is 75 kg's !, the 12m Waroo's range is 12 to 28 knots based on same 75 kg rider !
I think it would be unfair to misslead you, then have you go out purchase a kite that cannot forfill your requirements.
Wind is fickle at best, so in my opionion spend the extra few clams and get a 12m Waroo that is going to have you stoked every time.
regards browneee@best
OK thanx the 12 it is .....when one finally comes over this part of the world !!
Rare as rocking horse s,,,
I cant wait to see one/try one out, if they are half as good as people say I will be one happy chappy.
cheers.....Phil
Hope you enjoy it they are great kites.
And brownee I wasn't misleading him it was my honest opinion. Get more time on the kites and you will probably realize what I'm saying.
The published windranges are extreme - as with any manufacturer website.
The wind ranges I quoted are realistic.
Browneee, Kusu is right,
i ride in the same spot he does, same conditions, and i weigh 69.4kgs right now at this present time....
14 knots is cruising for me on the 9m waroo with a WLF 130, enuf to do small boosts, but would be great for waves as you can comfortably go back upwind, then have total depower on the waves etc...
ive done a recorded 9 knots on it 2, but that was on a waxed up WLF 130 with no straps... and signing the hell out of it, but i was flying past 16m crossbows....
but go the 12, it will get you goin earlier, and you can stay out pretty much the same as the 9 wen it gets windy, just use a small board...
Oh, and i got the demo kite for brisbane, so id say ive got the oldest one in local area? and its holding up perfectly
i got a small hole in the canopy when a stick landed on it but that was my fault... and ive done all kinds of experiments on it including adding 5th lines, bridal mods, pumping it up super hard (even for a waroo) smacking it into the sand mid kiteloop is common, i do the slide selflaunch thing where the kite slides along the sand then flips up and relaunches, this is usually over a few sticks etc and i do this kinda launch probly once a week, ive even flown it with 9m lines
All works just fine and not a scratch on it so they are built bloody well ![]()
Thats why im slowly going from liquid force kites to Best kites
Kusu & Rhys, your both seasoned riders, you should be able to milk the maximum out of your gear I'd expect nothing less. The fact remains those figures are published for a reason so customers like blownaway have a level playing field to base their purchase on, were talking about 11-25 knts !. I'd be pretty pissed if I purchased a kite for $1250 and found out if only I'd spent $1450 I wouldnt have to "sign the hell out of it"...
regards browneee@best
I can, and have, had the 12 from 12/13 - 35/38kts brownee@best. It is not comfortable - in fact a bit stupid.
The above info was my honest opinion only from alot of hours on the kites and seeing what alot of people around here at that weight ride in.
Sure if its always around 14ish get the 12. If it was always around 18ish get the 9.
The 9 is alot more responsive and way more fun to be on if it's working well - by a mile. Why do you think Best sent 9 demos out all over the world? Because it is the sweetest out of all the sizes.
hmmm.....
what about on my surfboard for when its light on the 9 how much wind needed. The 9 sounds like more fun but I would hate to be under powered.
90% of my riding is in the surf...I know i should try befor I buy but there are no demos in Noosa or maroochy that I know of, come to think of it I think there are no waroo kites on the sunshine coast full stop !!
whish I had more bucks an just buy em both !

even if your riding a surfboard, still go the 12...
my WLF 130 is exactly the same width as my 6'2 surfboard, the surfboard just has a bit longer on the tail...
so take the same wind range for a surfboard as my WLF, or maybe go half a knot lower if your really good at riding it.
if you can get down to brisbane your welcome to try my 9 though...
do you always ride the surfboard in the surf? or sometimes a twintip wen the wind comes up? Just cos the 12 will get a bit hard to handle once you fighting with a surfboard in 25 knots...
