Ok, ive messed around with my Slingy B2 for ages, flown it in 0 - 45 knots, and well and truely killed it now lol... it doesnt fly well in under like 10 knots, it doesnt fly/turn fast, and most importantly, it doesnt give an accurate representation of the wind window for when i do lessons...
so i want a new one,
i flew a 1.3m ARC today and LOVED it, its got like a full size wind window, it had 4 lines so i can show learners depower etc, it was simple, no bridals, just connect and go like a REAL kite...
so what else is out there seeing i havnt seen many arcs for sale...
Whats good, whats not good etc...
out of the
Best
Slingy
Airush
PL ARC
or any other brand you can think of, (not ozone cos they are expensive)
who makes the best ones for teaching?
hey rhys - i quite like the BEST trainer, ive had a couple of lightwind sessions on that and an mtb and its got good power for its size and is very stable. riding unhooked with one hand is easy and a stead 5 knots is enough on concrete, would be fun with a skate board in a big car park.
theres a guy here in melbourne selling cheap foils, but these pack more of a punch and are very powerful for their size - ive flown the 2 and 4m kites and they're great - the guy who sells them posts here as soonee (john), the brand is "feed the rat"
Can’t tell you which one is the best but I used the 3meter open foil airush to get my kite flying skills down pat. Able to fly it from 5 to about 18knots above or below wasn’t much good for stability.
I used to practice out in a paddock so the kites had some rough treatment - over fences or landing into tree's - and its not damaged in anyway.
You can get inflatable leading edges I think too as a trainer size kite, not sure how they would hold up though because lets face it the trainers get plenty of nose dives and crashes and whatever else one manages to do that shouldn’t be done..
Arcs might be another good option as bondo described in his posting, for the same reasons I stated above..
Good on ya though for getting some practice on a trainer... seen guys who have never flown these types of kites and end up throwing away their money on a kite lesson

i was actually talking about ARCs dude?
as in 4 lines no bridals...
Flew the LF trainer today, grunty little things...
Maybe an old 5m Flysurfer maniac? They're depowerable on a bar, should be safe below say 20 knots. Should still be a few in WA..
I reckon the companies that make land/buggy kites will make the best foils eg Ozone Flexifoil PKD.. generally they've only got 2 lines on a bar with safety on the rears.
I've got a small Flexifoil bullet on a bar, good kite, but much faster than any kitesurfing kite.
The ARC's a good idea, maybe email Peter Lynn, they might have an old one kickin around.
