Just interested in everyones opinion on a nice 9 mtr for the summer:

I like the north rebels but have heard lots of negative feedback regarding relaunch!

Any suggestions?

Cheers Guys

In the kitebag: 12m Cab Crossbow 2006 , 9m fuel 2005, Airush ProToy, North Harness, Cab leash.

I just bought the 10 meter rebel.. took out the 12 meter switchblade 06 yesturday then the 10 meter rebel.. the rebel does everything twice as good as the switchblade. better angle upwind .. way higher jumps, turns twice as fast and doesnt crash as easily as the switchblade did on trying new things.

Switchblade though isnt as good as the xbow performance but might help give you an idea..your looking for a 9 i think wsp has a second hand one used only like 2 or 3 times in the shop going cheap - was tempted myself to buy at the time but glad i bought the 10 as its still turning faster than the 9 meter sb i sold to replace it.

Best part though is no pullies and bridles and the 5th line safty means the leash is attached below the bar so no leash twisting when doing backrolls ectra!!!!!

yes i am a convert!!!!!!!

Mate, people will ALWAYS rave up their current kites to justify their own purchase, it's an unconscious process. If the mind wants to see good it does and the converse applies too (in other kites).

For the sake of completeness, do yourself a favour and try all the others and then try the 07 Best Waroo 9. Make up your mind from there.

Dude I find no need to justify anything on a forum or my purchases and your welcome to read my kite and board reviews I always point out plus and negatives - just haven’t found one yet on the rebel - give me time - as i stated i just bought this kite

But here is the facts no hype from my perspective.

The rebel jumps way higher than the switchblade does. I just can’t state that often enough

No bridles and pulleys - safer, which is why I bought it out of the several other kites I was looking at. You cant argue with that no matter what you paid or how much one has to self justify a kite purchase - pulleys lock up with sand - mine have, bridles can snap at least on a 5th you have some safty margin.

And it definably does turn twice as fast as my sb12 and faster than my sb9 I sold. Guess that’s the 2 to 1 bar compared to the 1 to 1.

I used to compare poorly to some other more advanced kiters where I kite with going upwind and always thought it was my technique but after using the rebel it must have been the kite because I really get a nice angle now when I tack upwind. In respect to the sb though I find it went better up wind compared to the lf assault 16 meter bow I use for light winds. actually to one guy on the beach I let have a sesh on the rebel (he fly’s c kites) I was complaining how it felt like the kite wanted to always fly so far into the window (Well to be fair it was averaging 25 knots with 30 knot gusts) felt like I was having to go always upwind. Anyhow he has tried other bows and hybrids and before going out said he didn’t like any of them mainly because of the pulleys, to cut a long story short when he came back in his main comment was due to saying it several times - "you did well on buying this kite"

What I will say about the sb is relaunching is realy easy - been in Perth now for several days and down at Pinnaroo pt and have seen so many people (mostly newbie’s I imagine) on the flat kites (not trues bows) that have had to do a self rescue because they couldn’t relaunch their kites... touch wood I don’t get into that situation with the rebel .. Switchblade was the kite I learnt on and would recommend one to anyone as a learning kite - just have to check more things before a launch.

Seen waroos on the beach, they look to be a really well built kite. The new bullaroo looks like a sweet kite too!!

Actualy here's something i wish the rebel had - two pump

most kites are very much the same in their target areas and most people like the thing thats different about their kite and it compensates for a lack in another area. if that person changed kite to another one that had different characteristics that matter to the flyer even though half th epeople on the beach love them they still prefer the kite than allows them to do their favorite things.
the best unhooked and best hooked in cruiser are totally different.
my kite scares some people that try it but when i try their kite i find it lacks something really important to me.

moral, no kite is the best for everything and truly dependant on your riding style and skill

I've got a 9 mtr 06 Tribal and it's,"the ants pants".I'm a bit dissapointed in the bottom end of the tribal's though, having said that, I just purchased a 11 mtr 07 Tribal and a 13 06 Impact.Depends on your style, I'm hooked on F-ones.

I recently got a 10m Airush Flow 07. A true Hybrid. Slightly more bow than C. Very easy to re-launch, little difficult to self launch but I just let it go down wind and pseudo re-launch it. It has a huge amount of adjustment to sheet out power and therefore gives it a huge (safe) working range. I have had it out in 27-30 knots Augusta and loving it while some other guys on different 9’s packed up and went home. I agree with some of the other guys as in try as many as you can but do yourself a favour and include an 07 Flow in the try outs.

Dude, if you've been riding a 9m fuel, then everything else will be a let down. If you looking for depower, then a bow may be better, but the 9m fuel is regarded as one of the best small kites around. It hasnt really chnaged in 3 years, so that says a lot. I love mine and havent ridden better.

Our local kick-ass kite chick/babe/female at 40ish kilos is fully ripping in one season on an F-one tribal II 9m, i traded my brand new kite from a well known manufacturer at a considerable loss for an F-one tribal II 11m..that good!

Edited for grumpy language

obviously so good you posted twice! grin grin

Mate, these open ended questions on the forum does no good... It is the worst thing you can do... as everyone gets excited about what they fly... (naturally)

I am on C going to bow, and have tried 6 kites. A mate of mine and I did a few differnt ones. in the SAME conditions on the SAME kites, we both had very different experiences... we are both intermediate kiters...

As long as you buy a quality brand... and from a shop that is well supported in your area you will be fine... BUT like they said TRY BEFORE YOU BUY... and then come tell us how you found it....

Just got my hands on a demo 9m GK Trix. Looks like its had a bit of thought put into it with all the adjustment points for the front bridle. Havent got it out in some decent wind yet but the weekends looking good(25+).The bars not that much different to the 06 Sonic except for the depower strap. Seems to be have the bar pressure of a C kite. Will see how the arms feel after a few hours on it.

Very surprised that no one has mentioned the Naish Boxer SLE-I'm not gonna' say it jumps X higher and turns X faster and blah blah blah than X kite-but it's a very well built kite, with great features and extremely good performance. I pretty much exclusively ride the 9M Boxer SLE (in Sydney and at 74kg on surfboard and 132cmm TT) as my only kite.

Definitely worth consideration.

hey sci
You've obviously got two very different kites in your bag, 12m cross and 9m fuel. So what do you want from a kite?? What riding style do you prefer??
Your taking the write option to try before you buy, most of the companies are all producing great kites these days. What you need is going to come down to a personal preference in the long run..
Try all the kites you can, and if you can get a run I'd like to hear some feed back on the T2 from slingy, and the o7 nine fuel as these are very much a different kite to your 05 much broader wind range specially in the top end..
Good luck and great kiting.

Ozone Sport, SOS will have a demo 11M this week, the 9M is quicker, but just as nice to fly, easy to relaunch, one pump, NO PULLEYS direct "C" kite feel.
Other 9's I ve tried and like a lot are the CB2, the Atom, Waroo 07, Rebble and Boxer 07.

Cya and

Goodwinds
