I just heard that if you take the battens out of the SS link then it will fly much better. Someone experienced this?
A dude said you could leave them in for high winds and take 'em out for low winds...or vice versa!
Apparently with the battens in, it will seek too close to the wind and tend to "fall out of the sky"

Appreciate if anyone would share info on the topic.

Cheers

Yes it's pretty much as you just explained it.

If you don't like it you could always just put them back in.

Firstly can I say that Links are freakin awesome kites. I fly a 7m and 9m - love them. The 7m still has the black bridle and cant be faulted!

Re the battens - assume you are referring to the cam battens? I was told never to take the larger wing tip battens out. However, in super light winds you can (apparently) remove the cam battens if having trouble keeping the kite in the air due to lack of wind...

I had a fun (but short) session on Sunday arvo on my 9m in super marginal conditions and was the only other kite keeping up wind along with a 14m switchy. Still had all my battens in though!

I took the battens out of my 9m link last week, and while the difference is not huge, it does seem to be a little more stable when parked in the wind window and when depowering. Leave the wingtip batterns in, take all the other ones out. i wont be putting them back in.

Cheers guys - I'll try that on my 12m & 15m.

Yes, I was also told to leave wingtip batten in.

It has only been in patchy low winds that I've had the problem where the kite falls out of the sky. In winds above 15 knots my kites have seemed very stable - We'll see what happens.
